Just extremely annoyed lol, it's fine.

I'm exercising and stuff in order to lose weight and I always seem to catch something eventually that will halt my progress.

Taking care of two kids with strep throat (including projectile vomiting) is exactly how I wanted to spend my weekend and start of the week.

Can't wait until I get it later this week.

Projectile vomiting sounds horrible.

Spent my Sunday in the ER :=]:

Woke up Saturday morning and my face was completely swollen. All the lymph nodes in my face and neck just decided to puff up. VERY painful! I look like a balloon

Went to a minute clinic first thing Sunday and the doctor sent me to the ER. The doctor there couldn’t figure out how it happened but her best guess was that I just caught some random bad virus. Got sent home with lovely painkillers that’ve been doing great

Swelling finally started going down today. Haven’t really slept or been able to eat since Friday night. It’s been super weird, just some terrible virus I got out of the blue I guess

The gym is a good place to catch stuff, germs everywhere.

Last week I provisionally accepted a new job offer. Now in semi wind-down mode because I won't start until January (it'll be the end of December before I even announce my resignation). It's considerably more pay and a promotion to the next level in my role.

However this week my current company announced that they were just waiting final confirmation before promoting me too. I first spoke to them about wanting to progress back in March, and since then I've been having to do a considerable amount of chasing around in trying to just get basic one to one meetings.

I think it's just a weird coincedence because I haven't spoken to anybody about my plans. People are departing our company in droves though, really poor morale in the team right now so maybe they're just safe-guarding against that.

I think they'd have to offer me quite a bit more than the new position if I were to stay because there's a lot of problems within the organisation and my job satisfaction levels are sub-zero. I really thinks there's a lot to being happy and healthy, and the new opportunity looks a lot more interesting and less stressful overall. Should be an interesting couple of months though!

Still doing what I do now (software development) but I'll formally be a senior developer. There are different tiers within the industry that represent your level and pay grade. It gives me a ton more leeway in the future when it comes to salary.

It's a bit strange because although these levels exist in the industry they're a bit non-standard. What's considered senior tends to vary widely from company to company. The last place I worked at wanted to make me a senior but that was by their definition which was severely lacking, so I passed it up because I'd be underqualified in that role in a lot of other places.

It typically means you have a very solid grasp of underlying principles and practices when it comes to software development. Not just writing software but writing really robust and extensible code and leading/encouraging best practices within the team. Probably a lot more mentoring/coaching too which I don't mind at all.

It used to be considered the highest level within a team without progressing up to management (which I would never do nor want to do) but it's a very competitive industry so a lot of places have levels above that now. My only ambition is to continue learning new stuff though and improving my skills, which it's always been about more or less.

I really enjoy the work, so I do consider myself lucky to be in a career I love. The place I'm going to really nurtures that too. They basically insist you take hours out of your working week to go off and learn new things.

SR level IT is usually just how much you make. Within government contracts a lot of SR level guys don't know shit, but there was an open position and they had to fill it with a body.

So just to complicate things, today I went and got promoted. And the new salary will take effect from this month and is actually slightly higher than the role I provisionally accepted.

Means staying where I am and I'm not massively comfortable in where the company is going, have lethargy and burnout etc. and they're losing a ton of good people so I'd end up one of the few keeping the ship afloat.

For the sake of job satisfaction I'll probably still move on at a slightly reduced wage. Nice to have options though.

So as of today I'm already a senior. That happened a lot faster than I anticipated. At the very least I'll have a nice wage boost in time for the holiday.
