lol I meant to post at the end and say that I found nothing to dislike about the movie at all really. Can't think of anything. The WHITE ORC and that hunter CGI if anything I suppose. Maybe the spiders talking too but they weren't as bad as the trolls in the first at least
WAS THERE ANYTHING YOU DID LIKE?! >:( !!! |

(:
It's pretty weird having all these talking creatures in the Hobbit trilogy. Especially since Shelob and the trolls in LOTR didn't talk at all. But for some reason I didn't mind it |

I chuckled when the opening shot was the return of Peter Jackson's carrot eating character
And the "under hill" reference with Bilbo/Smaug if that's what it was supposed to be |

lol yeah I forgot to mention that. That was so confusing to me. Wasn't LOTR set like... nearly 100 years after The Hobbit? How was that same guy in Bree that whole time |

OH one more thing that I was a little ehh on
|
The key hole and the sun going down. I liked the race against the sun and all, but I didn't like how EASILY they just gave up and left! I thought Thorin would stay behind and try to figure it out, but he was just like damnnnnn man let's head back to the prancing pony I guess......... |

I liked this one a lot more than the first... though I didn't get jack shit for going to the midnight imax. my theatre really sucks lately.
|
this movie benefitted by not being bogged down with setting up the story... we get a brief recap but then we are knee deep in it.
I enjoyed all the action sequences... and the added material was good... though Kate the elf came out as being a bit more lame than I expected. She didn't get much chance to be awesome and only brought a weird love triangle... I was expecting Legolas but Kili came out of left field.... the fact that he's the HOT dwarf only makes things worse.
As for drawves I enjoyed the expanded characters... though mostly only dwarves who were featured before were featured again... save for some nice scenes with previously untouched Gloin (who got 2 nice scenes) and Oin getting to be the medic.
the only dwarves I can't really say anything about at this point are Nori and Dori.... Bifur also has barely done anything but he at least looks distinctive (the braindamaged dwarf bum who can't speak english is pretty cool I guess).
I loved the callbacks like when Bofur get's the Kingsfoil. which was again said to be just a weed... which is what happens when aragorn asks Sam to find some.
The talking animals was weird... but I found the sudden non-english Orcs to be weirder. Lawrence Makore showing up as Bolg was great... even if he is just cgi now. He was great as Lurtz/Witch King/Gothmog and it's great to see him back at it here.
I liked the ending and I like that it didn't try too hard to wrap up the movie. This is mostly because it's actually two halves of one film that PJ made too long and not anything overtly intentional like the break between parts 1 and 2.
Radagast was good in this movie... maybe because he was dialed back a bit... less JarJarish.
Looking forward to part 3... and to watch extended versions of all 3 just to see how much plot PJ can squeeze out of this b.

pretty good! i actually preferred the first tho
|
thinking about it i guess this is the movie where the STORY EXPANSION really started to affect my perception of it. even though i enjoyed a lot of the additions (i was expecting tauriel to be a lot LAMER/more fanfic-y), i kept feeling like they distracted, where they enhanced in the first. I just feel like Bilbo is the HEART of the story (it is after all named after him) and the more they diverge from it the weaker it gets.
in particular the Gandalf/Necromancer bits were pretty dull for me (save for the MIND BENDING scene of the eye opening.) it just feels so removed from everything that's going on and has little actual DRAMA to it.
That's how I felt about some of the other action scenes too. Most of the nighttime stuff in Laketown felt like padding.
I do like that they're giving the dwarves some characterization. stuff like Gloin's pictures, or Bofur's missing the boat, or Kili's disappointment at being unable to go on the mission, were nice. Thorin's OBSESSION kind of feels a bit too TYPICAL but Armitage is giving a good enough performance to make it work. Balin is my personal favorite, but I do love little old men.
And the Laketown politics were fun too. It's going to make Bard's HERO stuff in the next movie much stronger, how they're setting it up. That said, did it need to be saved for the next? Would that have really made the movie too overstuffed? |

Do you guys remember the guy in Laketown with the fake eye patch? The one sent to spy on Bard. Apparently that was STEPHEN COLBERT (: . I knew he had a cameo but I totally forgot about it |

How was Tauriel not fanfic-y? Her forced love triangle between Legolas and the SEXI DWARF is about as fanfic-y as it gets (: |
