I bookmarked this ages ago lmao, I intended to read it at some point. Also, not sure who Ray Kurzweil is or why I bookmarked him.

That's because you hurt its feelings and now it finds social situations awkward. Apologize to the site!

Chrome is getting quite heavy-handed with warnings because they rightly assume people don't know a lot about online safety. Any sort of form on a site that does not have HTTPS enabled will trigger this.

When I update the site I'll update to https but the software is very very very old so there's not really much point right now

I'm actually thinking of switching to a new search engine atm. Got any recommendations Paul?

I've been considering TOR.

I'm not as afraid of Google as a lot of people, so I don't tend to bother. Largely because a lot of alternates aren't as reliable to be honest. Yes Google tracks the ever living shit out of you and some of the ad targetting is annoying but installing ghostery and/or adblock plus takes care of a whole bunch of that:

https://www.ghostery.com/
https://adblockplus.org/

Some people swear by DuckDuckGo which is quite safe and anonymous I believe. I've tried it in the past with varying degrees of success. I tend to find it as I say, less effective than Google in all

Tor is supposed to be good but quite slow for most conventional purposes. The overall safest way to protect your data is to use a VPN. There are many cheap options that are very effective and don't degrade your network performance.

Honestly for 90% of cases I think the fear of data monitoring/watching is kind of overrated and I don't think it's enough of an issue to lose sleep about if you aren't living in a place like China or something. There are a few worthwhile tips (e.g. don't enter your card details on a publically accessible wifi, shit like that) which are more just good common sense than anything. Don't require alternate search engines or VPNs or anything to that extent. We're kind of getting a bit stupid because data is so accessible now. What was wrong with the old way of waiting until you got home?

I <3 ghostery. I’ve had it installed since 2012 and never looked back.

I'm on an Acela to NYC for a client meeting, then getting right back on an Acela home. I'm pretty much living in a train all day.
