Grabbing it now. I briefly looked at it earlier but somehow missed that it was a horror comedy and not just a comedy and passed by it.
Just started this a bit ago. Don't think this is really a spoiler, but whatever. Had to lol @

Amos coming to check on Kylie's ankle monitor going off and how he immediately goes into EVP ghost hunting mode when the mom says the house is haunted.
Yeah, this was pretty damn good. I loved near the end when Eugene said "I know a place to hide" and then threw a sheet over himself and just stood there. Also dat meat fork explosion.
Nightcrawler! Loved it. Jake Gyllenhaal is about the most convincing -opath (psycho? socio?) I've ever seen. Really got sucked into the narrative and rooted for/against characters. Also, there were a couple of scenes that are SUPER cringeworthy for all the right (ie non-comedic and genuinely unsettling) reasons. You should all watch!
I just saw this tonight, it was really good. Jake Gyllenhaal was pretty amazing. He was the perfect mix of creepy/comedic with some great lines. Loved it.
A paint by numbers slasher/serial killer flick. Wasn't really a bad movie but it's everything you would expect if you've seen Scream, Summer of Sam, or any number of movies from the two genres.
I noticed it in the "people who liked this also liked..." section of Housebound's IMDb page. I thought this was a remake but apparently it is considered a "meta-sequel", which I guess makes more sense because the original movie is a centerpiece of the plot of this one. Like the Stab movie that gets made in Scream 2.
I never thought I would see what is best described as a cross between The Howling or Silver Bullet and Gran Torino, but here it is. I liked this just because of how offbeat it was. A blind Vietnam vet moves into a retirement community plagued by mysterious deaths.
He finds out very quickly into the movie that the the mystery is... a werewolf! He proceeds to be an asshole to everyone and obsess over hunting down and killing the werewolf. The effects ranged from sub-par to decent, but I'll take questionable practical effects over bad Syfy-style CGI any day.
I thought it was good and a solid adaptation, but I would've enjoyed it so much more if they hadn't whitewashed characters at the start of the series.
There wouldn't be any of that white savior bullshit that there now is and the larger meanings that you can pull from the story's themes wouldn't be erased. It especially pissed me off when I saw people using THG to get more people thinking about police brutality. I'm sure people will have more academic blog posts analyzing this in a more coherent way than me...
But yeah. Good movie aside from that.
I agree but isn't Katniss racially ambiguous in the books? It's a reach to call it whitewashing when her sister supposedly has the same father and is blatantly white bread.

"I watch as Gale pulls out his knife and slices the bread. He could be my brother. Straight black hair, olive skin, we even have the same gray eyes. But we're not related, at least not closely."
Saw Dear White People a while back and while it was a little long, it had a great emotional payoff. I thought the acting was incredible by the 4 leads. The movie definitely highlighted the struggle of identity for youth in general without being preachy about race. The movie theater scene was hilarious
Birdman! This was about a week ago and I still have no clue what the hell I watched. I enjoyed the performances and the cinematography more than the actual substance of what was going on, but still a worthwhile picture.
