First time I read "Mimsy Were the Borogoves" by Lewis Padgett (aha Henry Kuttner and CL Moore) it didn't effect me much. Reading it after having kids made me cry.

I haven't watched the more recent movie adaptation, but they probably didn't get the same effect- I'm sure they had to change things to make it work and may have created a happy ending.
