I worked as a Project Manager for a contracting company, and my boss would try and screw over our subcontractors whenever possible. Unless it's a really minor project, it's probably best to set up some sort of payment/percentage plan.

This is more advice for anyone reading this in the future, I highly doubt Vern of 2014 [or 2013 back] would try and screw you over.

Yeah, I've read a lot of real horror stories about freelancers getting themselves fucked out of payment. The half now half later system is probably the best option. I read about graphic designers doing a milestone system where they get paid a portion of their total each time part of the proect has been completed, but people find ways to scam them out of that too.

for the record if anyone wants some design work done, let me know! we'll do it half now half later. I'll definitely complete the project in a timely manner!
