just sent in my payoff amount for my car. First time Katy or I don't have a car payment since July 2010. Hoping we don't need to buy another car for a year or 2 at least.

I paid off my wife's car last December. Sure is a great feeling.

I always hate having to get car payments going again, so we hold onto our cars forever. Hell, I think we're driving an average of 5-6k miles a year on our CRV right now.

Yeah, if our last vehicle hadn't literally tried to kill us while we were driving on vacation, we'd still have it. We keep vehicles a minimum of 10 years usually and the only reasons we've changed have been:

1) Planned on having a kid, so realized the convertible Mustang wasn't gonna cut it anymore. Kept the Mustang for a few years, then sold it when we just didn't drive it anymore.
2) Had second kid and quickly found you couldn't put two car seats and another human in the backseat of a Jeep Cherokee.
3) Van tried to kill us.

We haven't had a car payment in over 2 years. It's wonderful, having a real hard time now that we are starting to look for something different. I wanna pay cash for it, but the wife wants to borrow the money and spend more.

congrats on passing the PE Mittens! That's huge, something I have always wanted to do but didn't want to put the effort forth to do it.
