Solaris
Everyone I know who's seen this movie hated it. It's too slow, the story doesn't make sense, it's a Hollywood version of a foreign classic, etc. I people who go to see a movie about George Clooney in space want to see something like Gravity and not an arthouse film. I really love this movie and it represents what I enjoy so much about good science fiction--presenting interesting questions about humankind and life with no obvious answers. I've read the book and seen the Russian movie that came before this, and I love all versions of the story for the various things that they emphasize, but the 2002 movie still resonates the strongest with me. At certain points the visuals combined with the Cliff Martinez score just put me in a meditative-like state that's hard to describe.
Big Hero 6- Really good. I guessed how it was all going to go pretty early on so very cliche I guess, but a good film with a good message for kids.

Watched that movie Night Moves that some of us were talking about in another thread:
Pretty good! It was deliberately slow and the plot from scene to scene was really thin, but that wasn't a bad thing at all if you're into it. If you watch it, you should read the plot synopsis on wikipedia after. It's hilarious how little is there but it shows how well they did stretching it out
Lots of slow burn and some well done tense moments. Somehow Jesse Eisenberg nervously looking over his shoulder out of paranoia turned into some of the best parts. He was really great in it
The plot focuses on John Oldman, a departing university professor, who claims to be a Cro-Magnon (or Magdalenian caveman) that has somehow survived for more than 14,000 years. The entire movie is set in and around Oldman's house during his farewell party and is composed almost entirely of dialogue. The plot advances through intellectual arguments between Oldman and his fellow faculty members.
Super low budget movie that's basically just one long conversation, but it's an interesting one. Don't expect fantastic cinematography or acting. It felt like one long Twilight Zone episode so I wasn't surprised to find that the writer also wrote some episodes of that
I've watched quite a few movies in the past 3 weeks because it was cheap compared to Australia lol
(Alexander, The Judge, Fury, John Wick, Interstellar, Dracula, Ouija and one more which I can't remember. It was prob lame that's why)
The best was Fury. The worst was Ouija.
I can't believe it cost me like $24 to see Star Trek Into Darkness in 3D in Melbourne.

Big Hero 6 - it was okay! the whole last half hour felt a little bit... i dunno, hollow? the animation and art design was cool but i couldn't get behind the plot.
