They did say pre-season that there'd be a lot more idols and they'd be easier to find. They wanted people to feel like they could risk playing them more often since they could maybe easily find a new one

I mean they typically aren't like "this seasons idols will be hidden in challenges." They kind of show it as the season progresses.

Though I would like to know how they decided when to hide challenge clues, digging clues, water well clues and if in theory there are idols in multiple places at once.

I think the reason clues are dead giveaways is because in past seasons that would be the idol. In the past clues were given with reward or from exile etc, now people just look for the idol, so to make it a little more difficult you only find a clue. But they have to be specific because in order for people to find the clue first, the idol has to be in a random spot.

Because it's a game changers season so the ways idols can be found and they differences in the way they look is part of the idol twist. To keep things unpredictable for the players.

Spoiler + For those wondering why Tai didn't play an idol and why they all still voted Sandra, there was a point during that Tribal Council where either Zeke or Ozzy or someone from that side said that they should just stick to the plan and move forward. I don't know why they didn't show that, but I'm pretty sure after they called Tai's BS, they put it out there that they would just straight-up vote out Sandra.
