Just finished this.
I thought it was GREAT! I loved it. Season 1 was, for whatever reason, kind of eh for me. Liked the last half a lot but couldn't get into the first half. Dunno why. Always intended on rewatching, never did. So I was iffy starting Season 2, but once I did, I couldn't stop watching.

First of all, holy hell did Steve get SHAFTED! The poor guy did nothing wrong
I guess the Californians were just there for fresh blood? Really thought there was gonna be more to them, especially after the parents got introduced. Still enjoyed them though, that showdown between Billy and Steve was great
OVERALL, I preferred S1, mostly I think because I enjoyed when the every day life aspects were moreso at the forefront with the sci-fi aspects kinda scattered in (and coming to a head in the finale). This season kinda inverted that and seemed much more focused on the sci-fi, especially in the second half. My favorite scenes in the finale was all the Snow Ball dance stuff really, so many great character moments packed into that
Also it bothered me how their random ideas were ALWAYS THE RIGHT THING TO DO (: But I guess that comes with the territory. I just wanted to see at least one plan backfire horribly so it'd seem less convenient
But anyway entertaining season 8/10 rip bob |

This season started off real slow, but if episode 5 is anything to go by, all the setup was worth it. So much happened in episode 5...easily the standout of the season so far.
I thought using the same cast would be a mistake. I was wrong...there's plenty left to explore here. The new additions are good. I really like how they breathe life into every character. In most shows, a character like Joyce's new boyfriend would be left on the sidelines. But he has had a pretty prominent role and they made him relatable.
If the rest of the season matches Ep 5, it's gonna be on par with S1 |

I also love how Sean Astin has these random characters of similar archetype. He is the nerdy, weird mom's bf here. He is the weird step dad with the speedo in Click, the brother with an ego and a serious lisp in 50 first dates.
He made this season so much better for me. I love him.

Ehh I didn't much care for this ep. It took the whole 'omg look guys it's the 80s' shtick too far
An Eleven only episode wasn't a bad idea, but the side characters sucked. |

They killed Bob. You bastards!
I knew it was coming, because someone spoiled it for me, but it still sucked.
Episode of the season? Dunno, haven't seen the finale yet. |

I guess I echo what everyone said about this season being slower, but it almost had to be.
Season 1, Will disappears almost immediately. This season, they really focused on setting the tone. Wasn't sure even through the first episode or 2 what this season would really be about.
Loved the scene of Dustin trying to get rid of Dart and hiding him. Laying the bologna trail and saying "shit, shit, shit" in his hockey pads as he waddled to the shed. Then getting Steve involved. That's when things kicked off. Honestly trying to figure out how that slug thing Will spit up would ever end up in Dustin's trash, but whatever.
I thought the Dart/Dustin relationship was going to cause some serious problems at some point during the season and lead to a storyline of Dustin being like excommunicated from the group for lying and being a huge reason all this goes down. Once Mike found out Dustin kept the thing, I figured there would be a scene of him laying into Dustin about keeping the thing and putting all their lives at risk. We got the one with Lucas, but it was brief.
Will being consumed by the giant monster was predictable on how it happened after his talk with Bob, but the scene was so intense. It was interesting seeing all Will's interactions with the upside down while seeing it from the real world perspective.
The Eleven episode added a lot to her back story. It didn't bug me as much as others because I think it's setting up a lot for the next season as opposed to being anything relevant to this one. For some reason, I felt like I had seen that scene with El and her mom before, but her referring to her as Mama freaked me out. It just reminded me of the movie Mama, so I found it a bit odd. Ended fine, but I don't think we will understand the relevance of this episode until next season.
Episode 8 was so good. From the minute they crawled up to the scientists until the end, it was intense. It was great. Bob dying is so sad. Especially when you realize Will technically killed him by unleashing the Demodogs on the place and also that if Joyce hadn't been waiting for him and they weren't struck by love, he would probably still be alive. Being in love sucks.
But the whole "he's a spy" scene with Mike and Will screaming and writhing was so good. I really love Mike's character at times with his intensity and passion for his friends. But putting Will to sleep was a neat change. That as long as he knows where he is, he can spy for the big monster.
Honestly, the concept and the last few episodes with Will being tied up and all the trying to get the monster out of him made me feel like I was watching an exorcist movie. Was waiting for the "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6" as he crawled along the walls. But it was all so intense.
I thought the Dustin/Dart relationship coming back together in the tunnels and him feeding Dart his favorite food was ridiculously cute. I smiled the whole time. I kinda wish Dart could live. But having that interaction at the last second and him remembering Dustin was great.
Of course I loved the continued relationship with El/Hopper, El/Mike, Dustin/Steve, Max/Lucas. Don't like the Jonathan/Nancy relationship, but whatever. Steve is the man. Loved him all season long. Really fleshed him out this season.
Billy/Max was an interesting dynamic. Billy became pretty real at the interaction with his dad, but then I went right back to hating him while he nearly beat Steve to death. Which, by the way, would be impossible for him to go right into the tunnels and be as conscientious as he was. But the whole car scene was great and the sharp turn left and hitting the mailbox reminded me of Box's F13 driving.
Overall, I didn't try to read into many things, but just tried to enjoy it all and I definitely did. Interested to know how it all works now that the "gate is closed" and what this monster is. But it was phenomenal. Acting was ridiculous from Mike, Eleven and definitely Will. Didn't know he had that in him. He made it all so real. But everyone did great and loved getting the depth in the characters this season. Definitely want to rewatching season 1 and 2 at some point. |

But nope and now your pets dude, that's what you deserve dumbass
glad will is posessed, he was annoying as fuck and his acting was pretty bad before, but this is interesting
hope this goes somewhere
also interested to see where the chic/dude burning the lab gets them
another cool storyline
also hate how they made basketball jock boi racist just so you can hate him
i mean he was kinda an asshole, but he was still a fun character
hopefully this doesn't all fizzle out and lead to nowhere like last season, where everyone lives happily ever after |

No, I called him the weird boyfriend of the mom. I worded it wrong, I guess. :P
