I think this is the golden rule, but doesn't stop people from lying in court/getting away with murder.

I can see why so many women are afraid to report rape because if there's not enough proof for the rape and just her word nothing can be done and it'll most likely lead to the public thinking she lied about it. I'm not sure what's the percentage of falsely reported rape, but I don't think it's as high as people think it is. But since there have been cases from time to time when men have been wrongfully convicted of rape it's obviously a complicated case.

We had a case here in Sweden not too long ago when four guys had their way with a girl on a party or something, I don't remember all the details of it but apparently she had repeatedly told them no. She reported them all for rape and the case went to court. The court eventually freed all four guys of all charges because there was not enough proof to convict them of rape. The girl was accused of being a liar, just as many others got really angry at the court for letting the guys get away with murder. This case in particular got a lot of debate over here because at first the four guys were going to get charged for rape, but when it came to the supreme court or whoever makes the final call to decide they freed the men. So yeah, if the justice system can't determine whether rape is actually rape I'm not really sure how to solve this issue. I mean, it must be really hard for women who are raped and feel they can't do anything about it.

This was my problem too... false rape accusations are on par percentage wise with most other crimes... false theft claims, false accusations of assault or even murder.

But the thing is I've never seen a post talking about false accusations of theft or murder and how they are a persistent problem. They are generally viewed as the outliers and are not lumped together as if they are some common issue that people have to deal with.

You wouldn't say "I hope nobody accuses me of theft or assault and ruins my life." It's often Rape that is trivialized in this way by associating the actual crime of rape with these dubious claims as if to paint the entire phenomenon as some random happenstance occurrence brought on by a fickle populace who is just out to get you.

Ok, so here's a story that actually happened when i was living in Bowling Green, so be forewarned because its going to be a little bit of a long read, but its fucking worth it.

My roommate's friend volunteered as a rape counselor for the college. Also, this wasnt the only one he found sketchy, this was just the only one he agreed to tell me.

She was asleep therefore she didn't consent. Just because she consented to other times prior to this one time, doesn't mean the consent carries over.

Wow, poor guy. I hope he gets the help he needs to put his life back together again.

Oh I read it. The part where she got raped by this guy, perhaps not intentionally but it still happened and nobody took her claim seriously... not that they didn't believe her they just didn't consider it rape at all and the guy went on with his life and she probably just looked crazy so I really don't even see why this is even notable. It wasn't a false accusation, it was just a different interpretation of events. And it didn't lead to jail time or even anything like that so really the only one who came out of this dirtied was the girl herself.
