I just started season 2 and...
|
What the hell was up with that opening scene? Also, are those the new opening credits? Anyway, I'm intrigued. What show am I even watching? Where are the familiar characters? Who is this new family? Why do I not like them already? Oh, there's Matt Jamison! Finally. And then the Garveys move in next door to the new family.
It's very clear that this is now a Damon Lindelof show. The book ended where season 1 ended, so I'm expecting all kinds of Lost type weirdness and mysteries. But I love it. I can't wait for the obvious showdown that's coming between John Murphy and Kevin Garvey.
I was surprised we didn't get even one scene with Laurie or Tom or Meg. I'm going to assume, like season 1, they'll have separate storylines.
Weird scene with the bird in the box. I almost expected Erika Murphy to bump into Kevin who was also out for a morning jog. :P

What the hell, guys? Where's the new family I don't like that we just got introduced to last episode that I need to know what happens next?!? lol
It was nice to see how the new Garvey family got from there to here, but we're now still in the same place as the end of last episode.
Anyway, good to see Patti Levin again, although I hate that she's haunting Kevin. Maybe he should just talk to her, or start listening to the voices, as Kevin Sr. suggested. I liked Patti speaking for the audience when said she couldn't tell if the Murphy family was part of Garvey family's story or vice versa.
And it looks like Jill's the only one who knows where Lily came from. It's nice that she's been in touch with Tom.
I love how Matt was so excited to see Nora and the gang and about the thought of them staying in their small cabin with them.
Jill's change in attitude is a welcome addition to this season as well.
I can't believe I almost forgot about the cinder block tied around his foot at the end! Did he try to sleepkill himself? Did "Patti" do it? Did someone else?
I wonder if we'll ever see Dean again...

So now I'm expecting the story to pick up from where the first two have left off.
But it doesn't! We don't even see the Murphy family or the Garveys that are in Jarden!
And I was okay with that, after seeing that we'd be getting a Laurie/Tom episode.
It kind of reminded me of the Matt Jamison episode from season 1, which also happened to be episode 3. You want to root for things to go a certain way for these characters, but stuff happens. I loved the episode, and I loved seeing Laurie trying to save these people. But she's still kind of messed up herself. I didn't expect her to actually run down those GR peeps in the middle of the episode. That surprised me, and I was shocked at first, but then seeing what the GR kept doing, I didn't care. Is that bad?
I kind of hope the twist at the end is true. It falls in line with the previous episode when Jill went in for a hug and Tom refused, saying he was sick. He's been afraid to use his gift.
Also, Meg...is evil.

We finished up 3x03 the other day. I'm a little upset that it's going to be over in a few more episodes.
Also, I'm sure it's been said in this thread, but I've avoided a lot of the posts. I absolutely love the music in the series. Specifically the different tones of the instrumental "Departure" and the song "Where is my mind" earlier in the series.

I like that you can still hear the music from season 1's opening credits during the episodes.
I just finished episode 4 of season 2. This feels like such a different show than what I watched previously.

I'm getting the feeling that Erika Murphy might be the one to watch out for.
Is Patti Levin trying to screw with Kevin, or is she telling the truth?
Loved the scene when Nora was freaking about another potential Departure when she couldn't find Kevin. |

Better than the first episode centered on Matt Jamison. And that one was great! Like most of the main cast, Christopher Eccleston is such a joy to watch on screen.
It's horrible to see how he's treated by some, and yet never loses his faith in God or in people. He's maybe a little too trusting. And that's why he gets into so much trouble.
It was pretty obvious he'd run into the wristband thief and his kid later on. And I knew he'd eventually take the place of that prisoner at the end. I thought he was going to do it right away originally. But when he asked Nora to look after Mary for a bit, I knew what his intentions were. I think mostly he wanted to free the man because it was the right thing to do, but he said "it's my turn" which made me wonder a little if he felt like he needed to pay penance for anything in particular.
I like how the audience doesn't know for sure if Mary actually woke up, like Matt is saying.
I also want to know 'what happened' with John Murphy.

A lot of stuff happened.
We got the explanation for the bird in the box. And why some guy is sacrificing goats in public places.
I was expecting a Kevin/John showdown, but it looks like Nora vs. Erika is what's coming.
That scene was intense when Nora was reading the questions to her. Erika looked super angry. And when she chucked the rock threw the window at the end. She must have known Nora did the same to them prior. She was also angry when chasing down the pie delivery kid. And then when she confronted that old guy who was sending them. And she's related to him?
Erika also said her grandmother was born there in Jarden. I wonder if the scene that opened the season is connected to Erika's family at all. Is that old guy her grandfather? I didn't make the connection until just now thinking about him asking her if she wanted to take a bird with her.
Kevin told Nora about him seeing Patti. And Kevin said Patti was saying he shouldn't have told her. And that he didn't start seeing her until after they found Lily and Nora moved in. And Nora might be a lens? And might be responsible for the girls that went missing in Jarden if they actually departed?
Laurie and Nora spoke on the phone. Tom disappeared and Laurie wants to apologize. What for and where is he? Hopefully we'll find out next episode. And I can't wait to watch the next episode. But I will, because I want to process everything and make it last longer. I'm past the halfway point now...

What?
Was that the plan all along? To get Kevin to just kill himself? Is he actually dead? Will he stay dead? If the showrunners didn't know they'd be coming back for a third season at the time, he could really be dead. That would suck. I'm hoping Michael Murphy is going to try to save him.
But Grandpa Murphy told Kevin he could help him with his situation from when he saw him in the visitors centre, so how long could they have been planning this? And why? Maybe things changed when Kevin's palm print results came in. Michael knew he was sleepwalking.
But anyway, it all seemed ridiculous...the plan to get rid of Patti. Have Kevin fight vanquish her on her turf, etc. I wish he had listened to Laurie! It was nice to see them talking again. When Kevin brought her back to the house, it was so she could be with Jill, since he was planning to go get himself dead.
BTW, Nora leaving after Kevin told her about him seeing Patti, seemed really out of character for her.
Hoping we catch up with Tommy soon, which seems likely, since I feel like they would leave viewers hanging again and not show what happens next.

Huh? lol
Well, I was wrong about not seeing what happened next with Kevin. Thought we'd get a Tommy episode. But what the heck was this crazy episode? I wasn't sure about it at first but I liked it, though it was not what I was expecting.
I thought Old Man Murphy was just a kook (or straight up villain) after the last episode and the crazy talk about vanquishing your enemy, etc. But he killed himself so he could atone, and help to guide Kevin, at least for a bit. Kevin emerged from a bathtub in Hotel Hell. lol He was warned not to drink the water. I guess the water in the bathtub was different. Was everyone in this place dead? We got to see Gladys and Holy Wayne again. But does that mean Kevin Sr, Neil, and Mary Jamison are also deceased?
When the talk of the well being a conduit being the living world and the spirit world, I thought maybe Michael dumped Kevin in the well to get him to where he woke up. But the end of the episode shows him coming up through the ground, so it looks like he might have buried his body. He seemed surprised to see him alive (?) at the end of the episode.
There was at least one point earlier in the episode that alluding to Kevin coming back from the 'dead'. It was when the security guy told him to hold his arms out and "make like Jesus", another guy who was supposed to have returned from the dead.
But anyway, I liked the interactions between Kevin and Patti throughout the episode, but especially the last few minutes. You really get to see who Patti was and why she was the way she was. I'm going to miss her, if this is really the end.
Also, this whole episode could have just taken place in Kevin's mind. Or it could have all been real. That's what's so cool about it.

Now this feels like an episode of The Leftovers.
|
First off. I didn't see that twist at the end coming. But I suppose I should have, what with Evie appearing in the flashback earlier in the episode, that the actor was on set and could show up again.
Mystery solved. The girls didn't depart. But they've joined the Guilty Remnant? How? Why?
Meg certainly has a way about her. She can be charming, but she's so evil. She's scary. I'm looking forward to this finale now. But how are they going to fit in everything I want them to fit in. By giving the episode an additional 10-15 minutes. Yay! :P
One stray observation :
When Meg went to visit Eddie Winslow (sorry, can't remember real name or character name), and she asked if she needed to make a handprint, and he said that's for people who want to know their future. "You don't want to do that," he told her. Maybe he already knew what she'd become.
But speaking of hand prints, that's another connection. Just like the one left on the car...

season 2 episode 10
|
When Kevin shot got, I wasn't really worried. Maybe because so much else was happening at the time that I didn't have time to think about it. And he'd returned from the dead before. But this time, his experience in the hotel was a lot different, and it seemed, even after he returned home, that it could have been something else. Even though Miracle is pretty much destroyed, it's almost too much happy ending for the Garvey clan. If the series had ended here, I'd think Kevin could have finally made it to a version of heaven or something, coming home to a house full of the people he loved. But I'd have been disappointed if it had ended any other way. Everyone's together.
The Murphy family is a whole other story. I don't know that they were a perfect family unit when the season started, but they're definitely not now. They're almost like the Garveys were at the start of season 1. I did love Erika trying to get through to her daughter on the bridge. Evie was stone-faced the whole time.
As for Meg and the whole GR thing she's brought to town, I was expecting (since it's Meg), for something much more violent to happen, given her previous violent outbursts. But still, she did pretty well in destroying Miracle. So now they live there too? I'm hoping not, but I'm kind of expecting to see a pregnant Meg in season 3.
Something that just occurred to me: Meg scaring the kids on the bus with a grenade was foreshadowing what she did with the the trailer full of "explosives", so I suppose I shouldn't have expected something more violent.

We finished last week. I still have trouble describing why I love the show so much to my friends and family, but it's honestly one of the best shows I've watched in years. Part of me is upset that I didn't watch while it aired, but part of me likes that I could watch an episode or two every few days.
everyone needs to watch this
