I predicted one thing right - Governer would survive but most of his group would die and there would be a gigantic shift of power in the Prison Group's favor. I expected Martinez & Shupert to die too though but I guess it makes sense he still has his sidekicks. Everything else though... shit.
I knew Milton was done for so, in a way, kind of glad they just got that entire thing out of the way right at the beginning. No sense in dragging that storyline out when we all knew what was coming. Still sad he met his demise, I loved his character.
Carl coldly killing Noah was a very interesting development. I think the kid was harmless, but that really shows the complete change in attitude Carl has had. It reminded me of the situation Rick had with Dave & Tony in that bar. They could have very well been friendly but had Rick took a second to sneeze, he and Herschel would have had a bullet in his head.
Governor turning on his people... damn. Guy has completely flip his shit. That entire scene was mad intense. Wish we got to actually learn about Karen a little more before this episode cause her surviving didn't really mean much to me at all. Should be interesting to see how she reacts when Carl reveals he shot her son's head off.
The Woodbury Retirement Home is just asking to be terribly slaughtered in someway. Don't know how it's going to happen, but it will. Not a huge fan of them adding all these redshirts into a confined space, character development is already my biggest fault with this show.
I'm guessing the Woodbury 3 will disappear for a few episodes and then return and get a major kill on the Prison Group for the Season 4 mid-season finale. I'd say Daryl or Glenn, but I don't think they'd have the balls to kill either of them so... Tyreese it is, unfortunately. Then they all eat it in the Season 4 finale. People are probably going to be sick of this storyline by then but eh, I think there's still some juice to squeeze out of it. I think the Prison feeling confident and the Governor feeling broken will put an interesting spin on things.
Did NOT expect Andrea to die. Holy shit. Thought she was 100% safe along with Rick, Carl and Daryl. I'm pretty much convinced they caved into the hatred she was getting. I would say they could have just, y'know, written her better but it's possible she just simply wasn't salvageable. Still, 'twas emotional scene and I did feel really bad for her as much as I've been hating on her.
Overall.. loved this episode and loved this season. My only real problem is with the lack of development for some of the more minor characters. Hopefully with Woodbury being pretty much destroyed, we'll get to know more about the minor characters in The Prison. And with the Gov's group shrunken to what it is now, perhaps we could learn a bit more about Shupert & Martinez as well. |
Edit:
|
Errm... apparently that wasn't Noah who Carl killed upon further investigation. Who in the blue hell is Jody? Ah well. |

Oh god.
Is that guy's name really "Shupert?"
This is the biggest tragedy of any of the seasons.

Yeah I agree with a lot of your thoughts. I kept joking that Milton has as much of a chance of surviving tonight as Oscar did during the raid. Then sure enough, they kill him in the very first scene (kinda). The Milton/Andrea stuff was well done. I came to really like Milton. I enjoyed the two reflecting on blowing their opportunities to kill the Governor, which resulted in both of their deaths.
I did not expect Andrea to die going in. Not at all. I cannot stand her, but she's gonna be a LOT more bearable after a rewatch of this season knowing how she ends up. I also sort of assumed they gave into the pressure of the fans on this one, but it was a still a good sendoff. This show definitely has great send offs. They take hated characters and make you feel for them in their last minutes.
I'm stoked that the Governor survived. I didn't expect the episode to go this way. I figured a bunch of his minions (Allen, Martinez, Shupert) would die in the prison raid, our heroes would fight back, Hershel and Beth and maybe Judith would die, Governor would die, they'd flee to a new location. I did not expect it to go the way it did, which I love. The Governor slaughtering everyone was so great. It was insane. Martinez's body language was perfect. I also like that they had Allen make a bit of a stand even though he was a douche.
The Rick and Carl stuff was really great. That's such a huge driving force of the show and I think they're handling it really well. Carl shooting the kid was an awesome scene
Very excited to see where they take this. I hope they're able to make a character or two out of the Woodbury refugees who aren't 110 years old. Though I guess Tyreese and Sasha being added to the mix might be enough. Also pumped to see how they deal with the rest of this Governor revenge plot. Maybe we'll get Morgan back too
Why do you think they chose to go back to the prison and not Woodbury? Woodbury seemed to make way more sense to me. I don't really get it |

Were you guys disappointed at the season wrapping up this way or no? I can see a looot of people not caring for this one. I bet it'll be very split. Most probably expected this rising tension to result in a very typical bloodbath firefight season finale where the Governor dies, all plots get cleaned up nice and tidy, there's a big cliffhanger, and the survivors move on to a new place.
This was completely different. It's not what most probably expected. I really like that. I think it was pretty ballsy to end it in this untypical way |

I do not share the hate filled sentiment the greater internet seems to share for this finale.
I was disappointed by some things they chose to do (or not do) but the "oh, they did that instead" was worth it.

I always saw people talking about how Andrea becomes a complete bad ass and invaluable member of the group in the comics. So never did I expect them to kill her off. Now Im wondering if people were trying to be funny, or if it's true. |

The biggest reason would be security I'd imagine. Woodbury was so secure because Gov had a shitload of guards on watch 24/7. Rick's got a decent sized group, but not one big enough to constantly watch all sides of the walls for walkers or an ambush. Plus if they do indeed get ambushed, there's really nowhere to go except inside unsecured houses.
The prison on the other hand has secure walls, towers (well.. before Martinez blew them up), plenty of hiding spots and a taped off horde of walkers - which as seen in this episode - can be used to their advantage. Not as comfortable but certainly safer. Still think they should have, at the least, raided Woodbury of all it's resources and weapons. They may have, but it wasn't apparent if they did.
You know... now that I mention the walkers, what in the hell were they going to do with the ones that got burned anyway? There was already countless amounts of them outside the prison walls, was 20 more really going to do much else? |

About the burned walkers. I assumed at the time that they were planning on bringing them with them during the second meeting where Rick was supposed to hand Michonne over. I dunno if they ever outright said that or not, but that was my assumption

Comic response:

It is true, but her character was written to be a lot more likable from the get go as opposed to the show. There was no WAAAAH DALE, BUT I WANTED TO DIE story arc after Amy bit it nor did she almost kill Daryl (who isn't even in the comics to begin with) with her shitty aim. She also was not involved with the Gov in anyway, shape or form in the comics so the whole "but Andrea, the killer is in the room" moments were exclusive to the show.
Also, she's about 20 years younger and doesn't look like Mickey Rourke with tits, so that's a plus too. |

Just saw some non-zombie apocalypse pictures of the woman that plays Tyrese's sister.
Hello, nurse!
Also, still lolling over the name Shupert.

How does the show compare to the comics? Like do they follow it closely or do their own thing. How far are they through the comics? Much left?

They mostly do their own thing. I've been all caught up on the comics but it hasn't really spoiled the show for me much at all. The locations they go to and the development of some characters are mostly the same. The fate of most characters has been different. I would read it if you're interested
