Jiggle it when you're pushing the connection in and see if it connects at all |
It did connect but it's like just "there" and not locked in, if that makes sense. It lit up but it slides out if you touch it at all. Also I have to change the base which involves a screwdriver/drill on the ceiling from a ladder. I don't have much confidence in this undertaking. :P

Yeah but the new detector doesn't "twist in" to the new base so I definitely have to unscrew the old base and put the new base up there. The "connection plug" fits but doesn't push in enough to stay, so it's weird. My genius idea was going to be to plug it in and then get someone else to help me with the base but now I guess I need help with both. It's just the beeping is going to drive me crazy until then.

It’s going to keep beeping either because the power source isn’t in correctly or because it’s not in the base. Sadly you’re going to have to install the correct base.
I wish I could help you with that but I can’t afford that plane ticket. (: |

Ugh I'm trying to replace a smoke detector and I'm having issues since it's a different model and the connection is tricky. It connects but it won't "lock in" so it keeps coming out. Meanwhile, it keeps beeping annoyingly. Anyone who doesn't want me to diaf have some advice? :P I'm just trying not to fall off the ladder. |

Swapping bases isn't hard- you just have to try not to give yourself a shock unless you can easily determine which switch in the box goes to the smoke detectors. Often, builders decide not to label any of the shit to make it more fun. Ours marked smoke detectors but has useful things like four different switch for "first floor plugs". Ummm, thanks- but which first floor plugs? | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

The founder of Ikea died. How long do you think it will take to put together his coffin?
