City by the Sea

Not bad, but I really only finished it because I'd already accidentally invested forty-five minutes into it.

The Exorcist

I've already made it known it's one of my favorite movies. Despite that, it's not something I watch every Halloween; I save it as something to treat myself to every couple of years or so. Part of me is scared that it won't hold up every time I rewatch it, but I'm glad to say that I still love it just as much as I always have. I'm noticing new things too, like the scene where Fr. Karras visits his mother in the mental hospital and you see she's bound to the bed by arm straps, very similar to the ones that keep Regan tied down later on in the movie. It really drives home how exorcizing Regan is sort of his redemption for not being able to save his mother.

One scene that frightened me this time around was something I don't even remember in all the other times I'd seen this movie. It's a part fairly early on, just before Mrs. MacNeil goes up into the attic, where you hear this disturbing, disembodied growling noise coming from various parts of the house. It just continues on and on and there's a shot where you just see Regan's innocent face with a blank stare as this growl continues to build. I'm sure most people don't remember that scene because it's not very famous and hasn't been parodied a zillion times, but I certainly didn't remember it and it made me uneasy because I had no idea what was coming.

10/10 perfect movie

One thing that really struck me on rewatch was how young Linda Blair was during this movie--12 or 13 if I recall. I can't see any studio today okaying a movie where they have a young actress do the things she does on camera--the fact that they even got away with it in the 70s is amazing to me. At a time when it seems like no horror movie is sacred from remakes, I like to think that at least protects this one a little bit. But it does make me question the ethics of making a young actress go through what Blair did to get the movie. I know it didn't scar her for life or anything but the question still remains.

I started to watch TV again, kinda regularly, and I like how sometimes really good movies get aired on a tuesday or whatever. I had no idea the program changed that way. I guess they ran out of material to copy from the US. good!

past few days I saw:

the rock
true grit
no country for old men
james bond: goldeneye

TV is back to being "good" over here. kinda cool!
"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

The Pact

Went in with no expectations. Got a moderately spooky movie. There are long stretches with no dialogue, and the tension just builds and builds. The whole peephole thing reminded me a lot of Silent Hill 4, and there's a nice Halloween reference that fans will recognize. I recommend this movie for horror fans.

I'm definitely enjoying the resurgence of paranormal horror films we're currently in.

I rewatched this the other day as well. Apparently this is the only scary movie to truly terrify my mom as a child. (I also read the book)

Thanks to AMC, I have been watching the Halloween movies lately. Halloween 4 was on yesterday and I got "Jamie's an orphan!" stuck in my head for a few hours

Halloween 4 is worth watching for a surprisingly good performance by Danielle Harris. I really dislike child actors so that's saying something.

Thought I was watching the sci-fi horror movie Splinter (2008) but I got 15 minutes in and realized I was watching the gang thriller Splinter (2006).
