By some strange twist of fate, the Elsa doll I lost the auction on last week has been relisted. It’s at a higher price than it sold for but still lower than the ending bid for the one I was going for tonight.

update: I bought it because yolo/fuck it, it’s the best price I’ll probably get (Coronation Elsa tends to run at least $350 before shipping if you’re lucky. This one’s like $290 including shipping) and the upcoming Elsa doll probably won’t be hard to get later (the set has 7000 dolls and it’s like the fifth wave of limited edition Frozen dolls). This is terrible for my debt ratio but fuck it. They’re investments.

People are weird, man. There was a $500 Snow White doll released by Saks Fifth Avenue last month. I don’t even wanna think about its ebay prices.

For the ones I have, they get released by the Disney Store, online and in the physical stores. Some stores do have their own special ones, like the $500 Snow White doll. The 17 inch dolls usually retail for $120 these days, but some sell out fast (like that Winter Belle doll I bought last year) and sometimes they sit around for weeks (like the Rapunzel one I got last week, although it’s not actually a 17 inch set but whatever. Rapunzel usually doesn’t take long to sell out is the point). I think Coronation Elsa was originally $99 but I wasn’t into collecting back then and the only dolls I really wanted were Tiana and Naveen (and their set is basically still close to its retail price on ebay so I put off buying them). And then that Winter Belle doll was announced and I needed it.

I’ve only bought mine online and Belle was the hardest to get. It took like two hours of fighting through site lag on three devices. Moana and Elena were super easy to get because they were nowhere near as popular, and then the Rapunzel and Flynn set was just kinda sitting there and there was a Black Friday discount so I went for it. I wanna say the average amount of dolls in a set is like 5000. 7000’s considered huge.

Considering the 1/48 Macross valkyries I bought for around $150 now go for $500 or more, the collectibles market is always nuts. Hell, just the extra armor pieces go for $200 or so.
