Witching & Bitching
Spanish horror-comedy I saw a lot of people talking about in a horror movie topic on reddit. The special effects were a bit suspect, but they weren't Syfy level bad and it was a foreign movie so I can let that slide. It was neat. Definitely more comedy than horror. A group of guys rob a pawn shop while dressed as street performers (a living statue Jesus, a living statue Army Man, a guy in a Spongebob costume, Minnie Mouse) and in running from the police wind up driving through a cursed village. I almost wish it had just stayed as a comedic heist movie. They namecheck the video game Monster Hunter which might have been the weirdest thing about the whole movie to me.

I just watched Draft Day.
I am a football fan and was not very interested in the movie really. It was a Moneyball wannabee.

The Tenant
Bizarre psychological thriller from Roman Polanski about a man who moves into an apartment in which the last occupant commited suicide. His life then starts to emulate that of its previous occupant in eerie ways. I can't really say that I enjoyed it but I admired what it was going for and I liked the style of it. It seemed like there were just a lot of scenes that go nowhere. It reminded me of something Hitchcock would make but not nearly as good.

The Bay
Kinda kul. I was expecting a found footage movie in the style of Blair Witch Project, but it was a little different. It wasn't just one camera the entire time. There's a wraparound story in the main character was a survivor of this mystery outbreak that made a movie explaining what really happened. So she's narrating it and appears in some of the footage, which is compiled from different sources (video chats with the CDC, skype sessions, police dashboard cams, security cameras, etc.) It did feel like they thought the movie was more mysterious than it actually was at times. At least twice when some new piece of information drops they show a quick montage of footage you've already seen to sort of force an "aha" moment when it really isn't needed at all.
But I guess that's a complaint about the movie within the movie, I dunno. It was creepy; probably worth a watch if you can stand found footage stuff.

The Mist
What a store full of assholes and idiots. Was weird seeing so many Walking Dead alumni in the same movie, but it made sense when the director's name popped up. Thought it was really good, but lel at his luck at the end there. Poor bastard went right for it. He hesitated longer when the annoying zealots were calling for his boy's head.

I thought it was kind of dumb. And apparently it's totally different from what Stephen King wrote, but he wishes he had come up with it. | Nintendo Network ID: EctoCooler47 |

Love Actually
I actually loved (hahaha...haha...ha...shoot me) it. I thought I recognized the kid the entire movie and was trying to figure out from where. Never figured it out so I had to search the cast list and had a bottom to medium lel when I saw that it was Jojen Reed from GoT. And I'll never get used to Andrew Lincoln actually being British. |
Wife makes me watch it every year around Christmas. God I loathe that movie. At least it has a couple boob scenes. |

After reading what the ending to the novella is, I'm going to go ahead and say I vastly prefer that the movie ended the way it did, as dumb as it was for him, no matter how hopeless the situation was, to go from idea to execution in about 35 seconds. Though the original ending probably worked better for the book.
If it had just ended right there, or with him walking into the mist, I don't think I would have thought anything of it, so maybe it's really just how quickly the next thing happens that made me go from feeling distraught to having an uncomfortable lel. Two things are certain though - Ollie is a hero and Mrs. Carmody is a cunt.

[REC]
Holy shit, glad I watched The Mist before bed last night instead of this one. Probably the best found footage horror movie I've seen. I always see people praising it in horror movie topics on the internet but for whatever reason I never watched it. That last stretch of the movie was creepy as fuck. I think it being subbed helped make it scarier because I was constantly fixated on the screen reading the subtitles instead of maybe glancing around when I felt a jump scare coming up.
This also had the privilege of being the first thing I streamed to my TV through the Chromecast I ordered a month or two ago (planned to stream the BB feeds to my TV - top lel @ that idea now) but never opened until today.

Quarantine
As Miko/Adam said in the horror movie thread, it really was pretty much a shot for shot remake. I mean, I expected the same story since it's a remake but damn even the little unimportant stuff was exactly the same (like her walking around the fire department at the beginning, the basketball game, etc.) Of course the one change that really stuck out to me (other than the sniper bit) was the black camera man who seemed a bit more sassy than Pablo was. Maybe it's because I literally just watched it, but the original also felt a lot more... real? I'm having trouble putting it into words but the way this didn't stray pretty much at all, even in dialogue, made it feel like a play or something. I dunno. Not bad or anything, I just liked the other one better.
