Belichick made Matt Cassel look good lol. That season is singlehandedly the biggest knock against Brady cuz it's the only glimpse at this Patriots team without him

If you stuck Marino or Rodgers on this Belichick dynasty they're instant GOATs

And Belichick is 41-55 as head coach before Brady showed up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cleveland. Browns.

last Browns coach to win a playoff game. maybe even to make the playoffs. kind of like how Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati was underrated.

Tom Brady is a great QB. Comparing players from different eras is pretty useless. Tom Brady KNOWS he’s not getting hit hard, ever, and that’s a huge mental advantage over what QBs in the past eras have had. No worries about happy feet when the QB knows they can’t hit him hard. A lot less mistakes are made when the QB isn’t scared for his life. His heads not on a swivel and that 3 second clock in his head isn’t near as loud.

The game plan vs Marino was to hit him every time he dropped back to throw the ball, and not just push him, but to knock his dick in the dirt. And this is exactly what teams did. Remember he played well before the “2 step” rule. Ya know the first QB protection rule that was instituted. You can get two full steps after he’s thrown the ball and still lay him out. Before that guys would would hit the QB well after he had thrown it. Now if a guy took 2 full steps and hit the QB, he’d probably be suspended half the season. And also now if a QB runs and Slides, you can’t do anything but merely touch him, like a baby kitten. Back in the day if a QB took off, it was GAME ON! Lol.

I like most of the new rules tbh. But some of the QB rules are a bit ridiculous. But owners don’t want their Star QBs getting hurt and that’s understandable.

But when you argue Marino vs Montana or Emmit Smith vs Barry Sanders, you have to remember Football is a team sport. Nobody can do it alone.

Just look at what or who these guys were playing with.

Montana had a cast of HOF’s around him. The Hands down greatest WR of all time. Always a outstanding Defense.

Marino had 3x pro bowler Mark Clayton and 2x pro bowler Mark Duper. Never a decent RB and for half his career an average defense. Teams game planned to stop Marino because there was no run game to worry about. And Marino still lit it up over and over again.

Same thing for Emmit Smith, surrounded by HOFs. Teams couldn’t focus on just him. He always followed a FB, rarely got hit in the backfield due to always having a great OLine.
Barry Sanders WAS the Detroit offense. Defenses focused solely on shutting him down because the Detroit passing game was never good or consistent until maybe his last year or so. Rarely followed a FB and a third of the time had to avoid a tackler before he even got to the line of scrimmage. And he still got it done over and over.

Yeah it's tough to compare or quantify. You can go by chamionships, value to the team, pure arm talent, understanding of the game, responsibilities.
