THATTA BOY(S)
I agree Justin, Lindelof said he would've loved an episode about the Murphy's and another about Jill/Tommy but HBO cut s3 down two episodes, both likely would've focused on them

I'm happy to hear that. I wish they would've replaced the Kevin Sr. arc with a Jill/Tommy episode.

Oh man I dunno about that, Scott Glenn brought it in that standalone episode. I don't think Jill could be that compelling. Still wish there was time for both tho, I think Tommy got the shaft most of all, especially after a great s2 for him

First episode was great. Very cinematic feeling to it. Really enjoyed it!
|
Damn, that guy's wife is in that creepy ass cult. Totally thought she was one of the disappearances! |
|
Spoilers in case there are people late to the party, like myself:
|
That seemed kind of obvious to me, especially when he smashed the photo in the frame on the wall, and you couldn't really see her face. But that group is creepy, I'm intrigued on why they choose not to speak/waste their breath and how the wife ended up there. Also why Liv Tyler's character asked to stay with them.
I was glad the lady who lost the baby in the opening scene reappeared later in the episode.
I liked it. It was kind of weird. Wonder what the 'grace period' is.

Episode three was pretty great. It was like this series' Walkabout |
I liked it. I forgot for a minute what show I was watching, since it was all about the one character, until the flashback to the 14th and the car accident. But you couldn't help root for the guy during the episode. I like how the connections between characters are being revealed.

I watched "Gladys" last night. The opening was brutal.
I don't want to do anything else but watch this series now. I've grown attached to all these characters.

And I don't want to watch it too quickly because then it'll be over. lol
I think this is one of those shows where it helps to have some time between episodes.

What a weird, crazy, wonderful show. 6 episodes in. What is up with Holy Wayne?

When I said I was 6 episodes in, it was actually 7. So now I've just watched episode 8.
It's the first thing I did when I got home from work lol. I love how I think I know what's going on, but then I don't. Also, how is Amy Brenneman's acting so good and she doesn't even speak!?!

Season one is over. What an incredible ride from start to finish. It felt like the series could have ended there. I guess the first season was loosely based on the book.
|
Perfect ending for most of the characters.
Kevin gets his family back (including the non-feral dog), just a little bit different than he might have expected when Nora finds BabyWayne on his doorstep. I'm still a little confused about the Holy Wayne story line.
I was expecting Tom to wind up back with Kevin and Jill, but he and his mother probably need each other more right now. So it makes sense.
And the GR is hopefully finished. But I would guess probably not? Meg is still alive.
|
I'm excited to see where the story goes in season 2.

I hope Amy gets the same level of success that Carrie Coon is getting.
But I also love Carrie Coon

Hey maybe I'll actually finish this now
This one felt rly Lost-like with how the finale was set-up. Shit's gonna go down
Unfortunately I only remembered bits and pieces going back into this so when the missing girls were revealed I didn't even comprehend the significance for a good minute
I think I figured out why the dialogue's always annoyed me on this show. TWO REASONS
1. The whole "Statement." "What?" "Explaining what was meant by the statement." style of dialogue that they do all the time. Lost was guilty of this too tbf. They do it SO MUCH here. No one talks like that
2. I remember reading an article back when Lost was airing that Darlton would always insert random FUCKS in the scripts that the actors wouldn't say but would use as a reference for emphasis. With this show it seems like they wrote the scripts like that but none of it got edited out. DON'T GET ME WRONG a lot of my favorite shows are full of fucks (like, any HBO show) but here it feels so forced most of the time. Like I remember back in S1 there were AT LEAST two arguments that ended in "Fuck you." "Fuck YOU!" Yeah vry clever dialogue guys
Also I was glad for a second that they finally got back to addressing the rape scene but then they just go "lol I was trying to make you pregnant!!" I'm guessing that'll be explained in the finale but that felt pretty fucking stupid
also Liv Tyler kinda sux. Even in LOTR she was the weak point |

not too bad. Still had a lot of annoying dialogue but there were actually some pretty effective scenes that were completely silent
That bridge scene with Evie and her mom was probably my favorite of the show? That I can think of. Really glad they decided to let the acting speak for itself there. The other was the scene of Nora running after her baby, that was well done
also holy shit Kyabe Knights during that scene of Kevin walking through the aftermath. Was not expecting that
Is Kevin just indestructible now or what? I liked the purgatory sequence slightly more this time around but like,
is he just gonna have an out every single time?
Also still don't get why the hell anyone would join the Guilty Remnant or what their ultimate goal is, but I guess that's partially the point? |
