HOF
Mafia - They utterly dominated the game. They had some crazy luck targeting both SK's N1 and N2, but it wasn't a given that they would have worked out what they had stumbled upon. They initially thought TIB could be Doctor and Ahoda Vig/SK. They capitalized on that luck by all being active participants in their Mafia forum, and blending in well for the most of the game. They only became exposed towards the end because they went all in for the win. They we're constantly planning and thinking through their actions. Probably one of the most active mafia teams I've seen. Thoroughly deserved win for them.
We could make an entry for each mafia member, as they were all great. Curtis for how he stepped up his game Day 4 and escaped the lynch (he is very good at talking his way out of lynches). Also, he was the one who suggested Nav's redirect target should be Ahoda on Night 3 which was HUGE for Mafia who were able to take out not only Town Watcher, but Town Resurrector that night. Not to mention Ahoda would have killed Nav that night if they hadn't redirected him. Nav for his constant strategizing. Timmah for staying under the radar while maintaining good activity. Spider for her long, thought out posts which kept the heat off her and came off very sincere. Gmaj for his enthusiasm alone. Cody was also a good player while he was alive. Town got lucky with his lynch honestly.
One last thing: Even when they made mistakes (see HOL) they reacted accordingly and didn't get despondent. Their only option in those last days was to act as if they had already won. This bluff fooled town for a while.
Lamps - The Town MVP. His reads were solid throughout the game. His role was not an easy one to use, but he played it well. On Day 4 he decided to use his ability, and successfully killed Gmaj after forcing a claim from him. He quickly deduced that Gmaj's cop claim was fake because he said he cleared Mittens N1 but had gone after him in the D2 thread. He had this figured out in two minutes so not sure if he researched it that quickly or if he just remembered it. Solid job, either way. Also, flavour wise it was great that Inigo got to kill the Six Fingered Man. One of our favourite moments of the game.
Ahoda/TIB - For winning despite only getting one kill of their own away in the entire game. They had the worst luck, and they spent most of the game ranting in their SK forum, speculating we had given them some sort of fake SK roles. We began to feel sorry for them and hoped their luck would turn somehow. Appropriately, it wasn't by any action of their own that things turned around for them. It took a Mafia blunder to open up the chance of a shared victory. Credit to Ahoda for making that a reality. He wisely bluffed that he was still odd night SK and couldn't kill every night, and put aside his anger towards Nav/Curtis near the end to make a deal with Mafia.
Brian - He was the other standout townie for us. His reads were good and he was another voice of reason. He played especially well towards the end, when his reads were enough for Mafia to decide to kill him. This led to Timmah dying by WIFOM the following day.
Town in the final days - Primate, Tchill, Penner and Sock were players who didn't have the greatest game for the most part. But together with Brian in the final days they rallied and ensured that the Mafia wouldn't have it easy. They had a very slight chance at victory at one point, although it quickly became either Mafia and/or SK's game.
Christian - For deliberately luring the Mafia to kill him on Night 3. He fooled them into thinking he had multiple uses of his role, and it was convincing enough for them to waste their Ninja kill on him.
Herm - He had pretty good reads overall. He also distanced himself from the Watcher role. Despite this, his support of Havo, while not role-related, led Mafia to believe he was a Cop.
Havo - Day 3 he came out with a list of 3 possible scum (Curtis, Ahoda, Cody). Nailed it. We're pretty sure this played a part in Mafia choosing to janitor him.
HOL
Town - What should first be stated is that Ahoda and TIB's bad luck became the Town's nightmare. Mafia gained a huge advantage by having access to an extra kill every night. That said, Town didn't help their chances with their complacent attitude for most of the game, and their lazy lynches on Jamie and Mittens. Crucially, they allowed Mafia to hammer TIB on Day 5 and finish the day early. Had Lamps had a chance to show up he could have taken a shot at The Mafia again. (Granted, he was considering Ahoda that day and would have died as a result!) Generally throughout the game, towns reads were just bad (which the exception of a few mentioned in HOF)... they only figured out the Mafia at the end because they voluntarily outed themselves. Speaking of which!
The Mafia - For celebrating before the finish line! It was hilarious to watch as a spectator, but what a way to almost throw away a sure victory.
On Day five Nav had calculated that they only needed to survive one more day to get a majority and win. They bum-rushed the vote to get TIB lynched after Spin spilled his information. The rest of the Mafia took him at his word and they went into the following day ready to troll the town, thinking they had the game in the bag. It was only after Curtis and Nav had both exposed themselves as scum that Curtis thought to look at the numbers himself...and discovered that Nav had made a mistake. Which prompted this exchange in the Mafia forum:
|
I uh. I may have miscounted. Oops. |
If it hadn't been for this mistake, they probably would have been sole victors.
They also foolishly targeted Brian on Night 6, despite the fact that Curtis had already speculated he could have something more to his role than "searcher" when he was the main character in the movie. So it shouldn't have been too much of a surprise that he had some type of BP or another ability. Bottom line, there were obvious "vanillas" they could have targeted which would have allowed them to end Day Seven with another no lynch, then win the game. Again, had they targeted anyone other than Brian they would have been sole victors.
Even when they found they had targeted Brian, if they would have tried to push Timmah as the lynch, they would have only lost one person and they would have won. This last part would be pretty difficult since town/sk were pretty set on lynching Curtis or Nav, though.
SK Team - They have to get an HOL for their defeatist attitudes alone lol. That being said, we understand their frustrations!
Josh - He didn't submit an action on Night 4, which was a crucial night for him - and for town. It may not have mattered, depending on who he picked but, if he had blocked either Nav or TIB he would have survived and given town more of a chance.
Christian - Despite his reasoning for using it too soon to us, it's hard to understand why Christian used his one and only lie detect so early. How invaluable that could have proven to have been later on! Also, although he gave his reasoning for using it on Jamie when he had soft-claimed Miller, using it on a role which would possibly mess with your results was probably not the best idea.
Gmaj - He was too hasty with his cop claim and didn't think his night actions through. He claimed he had cleared Mittens as Town N1, which Lamps quickly figured out was BS because he remembered Gmaj had gone after Mittens Day 2.

A few words about the setup
In almost every game people have some complaints about the setup, it's inevitable. Just to address a couple of things from this one:
- The Redirector was a huge role for Mafia, allowing them to control the SK kill every night. It nearly fucked with the balance. We never anticipated that such a situation could develop when we were checking the setup, and I think that's understandable given the odds on Nav targeting the Odd Night SK on N1, and Cody trying to kill the Even Night SK on the same night. It was one of those freak occurrences. I was fine with how it played out, even if I did feel a little bad for the SK's.
- Some might feel that Town was under powered. We disagree, they were just really unlucky with who died and when. Had IM lived a little longer he could have ressurected a player with a power role. Had Christian held off using his lie detector a while longer, it could have been invaluable. There was a Watcher and a Tracker, and the latter (Spin) caught Nav on N2. Had he lived long enough he could have exposed him as Redirector, intel town needed badly later on.
- There was no Doctor, which did make night phases after IM's death rather fatal indeed, but IM's role was so powerful that we felt justified in not including a standard Town Doctor. What we did nearly include was a backup Ressurector, something that I personally wish we had stuck with having thought about it. (This would have been Christian's role had we gone with it) Either that, or we should have added a Town BP into the mix.
- It should be pointed out that despite the fact that Mafia had control of two kills per night, this was still a close game and Town could still have won, until it got very near the end that is. Imagine how much closer it would have been had Mafia not had that extra kill?
- Finally, there was no standard Vigilante. We did have a variation on Vigilante in the form of Lamps role, The Fencer (which is essentially a role called Desperado we found on the MafiaWiki) This role didn't have any margin for error, which might seem weak to some. But it should be kept in mind that even if Lamps failed his kill, it would have provided town with useful info. Because he died if he targeted town or SK, that would have ruled out his target as Mafia if his kill failed.
Overall, I feel things were balanced well.

Wikey you cant ever plan for mafia to get 2 night kills like they had this game. Its something that just happens and you just throw your hands up and say fuck it.
That was also why the mafia was way op this game. If they never had that you never know how the game goes. But I do hope mods in the future out restrictions in power roles like that so they dont become too op |

it was controlling your kill on back to back nights after TIB died that was broken. mafia deserved 2 kills by figuring out who both SKers were.

Oh yeah. But then we were hoping it was a fluke. Ahoda always thought redirector.
After 2 kills a piece it was obvious but not killing isn't what the role is built for. Even then we need numbers. It was more frustrating to not be able to lynch them than to have them take kills. | Rodney is a great guy. Oops, nevermind he's a terrible human being.

I didn't want my one and only action to be wasted, but that's what ended up happening anyway lol I didn't expect the hidden text that went along with the Miller, so it made sense to me.
But I'm glad that while I landed on the HOL for my decision, I also made the HOF for luring the Mafia kill. They cancel each other out so it's all good.

That is NOT true. I asked if that was the serious action because I literally didn't know if TIB was just mad and was going to change it. It would've had no effect, anyway.

I asked if it was his serious action because I literally didn't know if it was.
Also, the redirection of your kills was as beneficial to you as it was to Mafia, since you were killing town, anyway. I think two of your targets (Christian, Rodney, idr who else) ended up being killed either way.
