Chapter 10: Sword Fight

"Grandpa, I don't like the way this story is progressing at all. The good guys ARE going to win right?"
"Hmm...I'm not sure to be honest son. This story isn't anything like I remember...still, there's more to go yet, shall we find out?"

The night was still and quiet. A masked figure was stalking the blood stained streets. Florin had seen more than its fair share of violence recently, and it didn't look like it was going to stop anytime soon. The masked figure approached a nearby tavern.

Inside the tavern, Lamps sat polishing his sword. Gmaj's blood still stained the blade. Lamps had been searching for Gmaj, the six-fingered man, for as long as he could remember. The man who had killed his father. Now that he had gotten his revenge he wasn't sure what he would do next. He was pondering this very thing when the masked figure entered the tavern. Lamps spotted him immediately.

"Ah," he said. "I have been expecting you."
"Is that so?" the masked figure asked.
"It is. Now...draw your sword."
"Very well," his attacker replied calmly, and complied.

Lamps made the first move. He thrust his sword at his opponent, who hastily parried the attack and fell backwards. His opponent responded with a vicious swipe at Lamps' head. Lamps defended it coolly and smiled.

"You are good, but not good enough!" Lamps said, clearly enjoying himself.

The masked attacker grunted and started swinging madly at Lamps, who calmly fended off a flurry of attacks.

"You are going to have to do better than that!" Lamps said.

His attacker continued thrusting and swiping away at Lamps, but it was no use. Lamps was a much more skilled swordsman.
After some time going on this way his attacker stopped for breath.

"Can...can we take a break?"
Lamps chuckled.
"Getting tired are we?"
"Just a few minutes, then we can get back to it."
Lamps shrugged. "Of course my friend," he said cheerily, putting his sword away. "Do you want a pint of beer?"
The masked figure nodded. But as soon as Lamps turned his back to go to the bar, they seized the opportunity to stab him in the back.
Lamps staggered forward and fell against the bar.

"Hah! Stabbed from behind...I should have expected that."
Lamps turned to face his attacker once more.
"You have no honour, but you outwitted me. Well done!"
Lamps pulled the sword out of his back and handed it back to his attacker.

"Farewell."

Lamps collapsed to the ground and bled to death.

Lamps has been killed.

I hate to kill you.” Your father, Domingo Montoya, was viciously and unjustly murdered by a mysterious "six-fingered man." Your power lies in your steel. You have vowed to search out and destroy this man and you have studied the art of sword-fighting to help you attain this goal. Twice per game*, during a day phase, you may choose to duel someone. If the person you target is Mafia, you will successfully attack them; however, if they are not Mafia, you will die. Choose carefully. Win condition: You win when there are no remaining threats to town.

That was not the end of the violence though...




Elsewhere in the land of Florin someone else was reflecting on the previous day's events.

He was so very tired.

To clear his head he decided to go for a long run. There was a meadow nearby where he knew he could break out and run free... re-energize. He arrived at the clearing and viewed the moonlit expanse in front of him. He put his head down, then took off and just... ran! And ran and ran! Until he was feeling free and so alive!

When he was finally tired out and ready to retire for the night, he headed for his usual path. Unbeknownst to him, someone laid in wait for him. As he trotted past a grove of trees, he felt what he first thought was a branch hitting his chest. Then he realized it was a sword, which struck him right in the heart.

He died in his favorite meadow.

Also just wanna shout out the odd night SK for making the absolutely wrong move and killing town. The correct move is killing mafia cus they are definitely winning as of now.
