As a reminder, we have chosen to pick out songs that stuck out to us, or ones that you would listen to again/put on a playlist. There is no hard rule to what songs you have to include here, but they should just be the highlights of the album for you. Try to pick at least two, if you can, but you can throw on as many as you want here. (My normal habit with this is to put a small star next to a song right after I listen to it to remind myself that it stuck out to me.).

On top of this, we are giving the album an official rating from 1-10. Your rating can be off any system or scale that you choose, but here is a general scale just in case you are needing a little help pinpointing where it should be:

Quote
10. A classic. One of your favorite albums of all time.
9. A great album. One of the best albums of the year.
8. A good album. You would suggest it to a friend.
7. An above average album. The songs hold up pretty well but the album won't change your life.
6. A promising album. There is potential for them to create great music, they just might not have perfected their sound.
5. An okay album. Your life is pretty unbothered after listening to it. You'd listen if it was on but nothing more.
4. An uninspired album. It has a few good songs but the rest were bad.
3. A disappointing album. You expected better from the album and artist and neither delivered on it.
2. A bad album. You would never go out of your way to listen to this artist or album again.
1. A horrible album. You can't understand how this album crawled its way out of a studio.

I found the sample song quite intriguing, so curious to hear the album!

Uhm I had never heard of the genre "Low fidelity" and had to look it up.
Quote
Lo-fi (from low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections of a recording or performance are audible, sometimes as a deliberate aesthetic choice. The standards of sound quality (fidelity) and music production have evolved throughout the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. Lo-fi began to be recognized as a style of popular music in the 1990s, when it became alternately referred to as DIY music.[1]

Harmonic distortion and "analogue warmth" are sometimes misleadingly suggested as core features of lo-fi music.[2] Its aesthetic is actually defined by the inclusion of elements normally viewed as undesirable in professional contexts, such as misplayed notes, environmental interference, or phonographic imperfections (degraded audio signals, tape hiss, and so on)

I'm really interested in this guys DIY ethic and the way he got successful on his own by sharing his music online. I gave one his albums a listen a few years ago but it wasn't for me (it was the follow up to this one actually, called Teens of Denial). I haven't given him a chance since.

Perhaps I should have started with this one though. According to Wiki:

Intended as an introductory compilation for new listeners, it features reworked newly recorded versions of songs originally released between 2010 and 2012, with the addition of one new composition

This is way better than Teens of Denial.

Maud Gone is my fav song by far, I saved that one to a playlist straight away. I liked most of these songs, but I'd say of the others the following stood out: Sunburned Shirts, Something Soon, Los Barrachos and No Passion.

This is my fav album so far. The only complaint I have is that the vocals are drenched in reverb on every song. I think they would sound better with less of it. Guess this guy doesn't like his own voice or something.

This Teens of Style isn't really my style on first sampling.

8. Maud Gone - 8/10 - a tad boring at first but gets a lot better towards the end
9. Los Borrachos (I Don't Have Any Hope Left, But the Weather is Nice) - 7/10 - p nice I think
10. Bad Role Models, Old Idols Exhumed (psst, teenagers, put your clothes back o) - uhm
11. Oh! Starving - 6/10 - this is a bit much perhaps, and it reminds me of a certain band? I think the singing reminds me of Clap your hands say yeah! Not a bad song.

Idk I think I like this. Not sure whether it will grow on me or if I'll get tired of it. The singing could become a deal breaker here, not sure yet.

This part from Times To Die is my favorite part of the album.

Also, No Passion went from a 6 to a 9 and is now my favorite song on the album. Sounded weird to me at first, but it really grew on me and now I love it.

Overall, I guess the album is a little bit inconsistent and not sure where it goes at times, but it is interesting enough that I keep going back. Also has some really good songs. The vocals are actually really cool, I like them now. Reminds me a bit of The Rakes, and also Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) at times.

Will give it an 8.
