Guys we SUCK. At least collaboratively. For the newcomers to our community, we often try and collaborate on something really cool but it totally falls flat because of a few people not putting the effort in or because nobody genuinely cares anymore. Most recently Curtis stole the Gary ball, a project that saw us all sending a ball that looks like --> :| around to each member. The purported goal being to send messages of kindness the family of friend and fellow poster Bsrj, who committed suicide last year. We all know how we feel about Curtis but the fact is we are so unable to finish anything we ever start. I'm no different, most of my projects are scattered in ruin all over.
The point is I thought it'd be nice if we could do something this Christmas but up until now I haven't really known what. It's a bit late in the day with it only being a week before, but since Secret Santa won't happen it's nice to at least have a little festive cheer after posting together for five years (for some of us) and maybe less for others, but it still counts.
My friends, I propose the one community project we could, conceivably finish. FEAid:
I don't know how big the BandAid songs are in America but every few years over here, a bunch of the celebrities of the now (and Bono because he is Good) release a version of Do They Know it's Christmas to remind us all that we're neglecting the third world and being pricks, unlike they are because they are releasing a song about it.
So let's do it, a community rendition of Do They Know it's Christmas. FEAid. We each record a segment via microphone, or camera preferably of us singing a selected part of the song. Then I edit it all together and release it on Christmas Day. Our very own FE Christmas single. This is probably one of the least involved projects we've ever attempted here. All people have to do is agree to record a bit of the song, and just film themselves singing it. In total it could only be 20 seconds of footage (though some might wish to feature more).
We're all too busy to make games, and big graphical masterpieces and whatever else but I doubt we're all too busy to sit on a microphone and record 20 seconds of us singing. The end result will be great, and something we can actually hold on to and say, you know what, we did a group project. Moreover, it'll be fantastic.
Please express interest below. Let's not cripple this with cynicism and CBF. When I get confirmations, all I'll need to do as editor is contact you and tell you to record a video clip of yourself singing the handful of lines you want to sing. If I need additional, I can come to you and ask for more. You can email the video file directly or put it on Youtube as a private movie and send me the link. It really doesn't matter so long as I get the movie in some format. Please note it in no way has to be a movie. For people who don't want to actually film themselves, I'll just use an image. All it needs is a microphone and approximately 5 minutes of your time. I'll do all the heavy lifting so to speak, and we can sit back with our beer or beverage of choice on Christmas evening and enjoy the only community project we ever managed to ace.
Also make it as ridiculous as possible, that goes without saying. I fully expect Jeff's to be entirely done via rap. But the more people the merrier. NO EXCUSES
oh men my favourite Christmas song. I love this idea, we need to coordinate a time though when this would be appropriate.
Any time in the next week. As long as I get all the video clips by about 23rd, I can conceivably do it. I need to gauge interest levels. I think if at least six people agree to do something we can make it happen, though naturally it'd be nicer if a large subsection of the community got involved, even if the clips are only 15 seconds each.
In true fashion, I'll have everybody perform the "chorus". You can either do a few lines or the same line and I'll just loop it. Hardly matters tbh. The verse parts I can split appropriately. With as many as we have, there won't be an awful amount to do each but it'll be good.
Just the audio is totally fine but having video footage again, makes it sweeter.
