EXCITED ABOUT:

- Anything Get Out related. My favorite movie from last year. It felt like a pipe dream at the time but I’m so glad it’s an Oscar contender now. A Best Picture nom is awesome, and I’m real glad Peele and Greta Gerwig got best director

- Some Woody Harrelson love for Three Billboards

- Emily and Kumail nom for writing Big Sick

NOT HAPPY ABOUT:

- The lack of Logan :( . If any superhero movie was gonna be a contender post-Dark Knight it should’ve been Logan, it was so good. I would’ve loooved to see Jackman nominated for best actor, he was amazing and deserves it. Especially since he was so snubbed for Prisoners, he’s such a good actor. Get Denzel outta there for that crap movie. Patrick Stewart for supporting actor would’ve been real cool too

- Shape of Water leading noms. Meh. Wish I liked it more but I just didn’t. I hope Three Billboards smashes everything if Get Out doesn’t

- Three Billboards director getting snubbed

- Would’ve liked some love for Wind River/Ghost Story/Good Time somewhere

I really want Laurie Metcalf to complete her triple crown this year and before Sunday I would have said she'd get it but now I'm not so sure.

I think Logan getting recognition for screenplay is pretty cool/unexpected tbh, not sure it deserved a Best Picture nom (TDK is still the only one that has deserved that imo)

I'm sooooo glad Get Out didn't get shafted. Very happy for Jordan Peele.

I've been thinking about the number of actors in two or more of the big movies this year

Lucas Hedges in Three Billboards and Lady Bird
Timothee Chalamet in Lady Bird and Call Me by Your Name
Michael Stuhlbarg in Call Me By Your Name and The Post AND Shape of Water (and Fargo this year)
Caleb Landry Jones in Get Out and Florida Project and Three Billboards (and Twin Peaks this year)

That's crazy. Stuhlbarg made three movies this year and ALL THREE are nominated for Best Picture

Best Picture ranking:

1. Get Out
2. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
3. Lady Bird
4. Dunkirk
5. The Shape of Water

Gonna watch the rest when I can. Interested in Call Me by Your Name more than the other three. Then Phantom Thread then The Post then Darkest Hour probably
