Hoooo boy that was exhausting, good though. Was torn between a 6 or a 7 but settled on a 6 in the end, mostly because I don't see myself ever rewatching it. And while that has a lot to do with the slowburn nature which you really have to be in the mood for, there's definitely a fair amount of slowburn movies that I have watched/want to watch multiple times

Honestly I was waiting for most of the movie for the plot to be building to something tangible, which I definitely expected from the plot summary of them being trapped in the hotel (which was a tad misleading (: ). But by the end it became clear that this was solely a character piece (and an excellent one). Felt like a novel more than anything. Some of the dialogue scenes went on for so long, but they were almost all riveting and never really felt like they were dragging. There were a ton but the arguments between Aydin/Necla and Aydin/Nihal (when he's about to "leave" for Istanbul) were definitely the standouts for me. The movie really pared away everything you assumed about Aydin at the beginning and it was pretty fascinating to see, especially in those scenes. But even then, I appreciated that it was nuanced enough to not outright paint him as bad (I think that goes for any character in the movie, even Ismail) but as someone who is good at their core (or trying to be) but is incapable of externalizing it through his actions

I dunno, a lot to unpack from this movie and I really should wait a bit to rate these because I'm already thinking it might be more of a 7 (:

I will say if you don't like the first 30-60 minutes then you probably won't enjoy the movie as a whole. It does pick up from there as far as emotion/confrontation goes but the heavy focus on dialogue never really stops

I agree, it definitely felt like a novel. It was almost Taraninto-esque in its very drawn out dialogue scenes, just two very different types of conversations

Some of them were so exhausting but not in a bad way. Just DRAINING. Punch after punch, especially in the two that you mentioned. Aydin taking Nihal's papers and the arguments before and after were the standout parts for me. Also the money scene at the end

Weird movie. Really well done for what it wanted to be. Very well acted and the cinematography was great, I wanted to be in those cozy rooms by the fires and the scenic shots looked like paintings at times

6 or 7 for me too. Probably a 6 but I voted too soon for Victoria and Sing Street and wanted to rate them higher the day or two after watching so I'll sit on it a bit more this time

The money scene definitely felt Tarantino-esque to me, that was pretty tense. I was getting p stressed when Hamdi left Nihal alone with Ismail. WHY. I was actually fearing something even worse was gonna happen

But Hamdi made me feel v uncomfortable too every time he was on the screen. I work with a guy who reminds me so much of him

I tried, but only made it about 10 minutes, so I didn't vote. Reading a novel on my tablet at someone elses pace just wasn't for me.
