As per Buffy's request a new thread to discuss the idea that people cling to the delusion that there is a god because to challenge any part of that belief could potentially bring their world crashing down. Oh and who would you blame for things going wrong otherwise!

It's true. Every time they interview a player from the winning team they thank god for giving them the strength to win. Then, when they interview a player from the losing team, they never thank god for making them inferior on that day.

God's doing some crazy shit in the First Testamente, although he seems to have calmed down a whole lot once it's time for the Second Testamente. I don't know anything about the Quran so not sure how he's like in that.

Not believing in the existence of God obviously, but based on what I know from the texts he seems more vengeful in the old scriptures and more forgviving and kind in the new scriptures. It could be a reflection of the progression of humanity I guess.

The books of the bible that are currently in it were chosen from a much larger selection of books, so that point of view is entirely shaped by man.

No, I get it. I was lol'ing because this happens in every kind of contest. I was thinking of BB and Survivor to be specific, where people pray to God about helping them and say whatever happens is "God's will" and it's just so silly. Whether you believe in God or not, I doubt he/she/they cares either way.

I were once over at a friend's house 10-15 years ago, and they had this old bible lying in their guest room that apparently belonged to my friend's great grandmother. I was allowed to read it, but I only remember scrolling through it and looking up the good parts like the horsemen of the apocalypse and those sorts of things.

It's not exactly easy reading lol.

Revelations is complicated but probably the best book, imo.

The stories in the books are pretty great actually.
