As the sun rose over the hills of Hyrule in the morning, the citizens of Hyrule felt uneasy. The day was bright and sunny, but things just seemed a little... off. The smell of rotting wood was permeating through the Kokori forest, the clouds around Death Mountain looked a little denser than usual, and there was a chilling breeze coming from Zora's Domain. There had already been an atmosphere of tension, due to the political differences of the Capital and the Gerudians, and the timing of these omens was troublesome. Any of these individual events could be explained by coincidence, but the fact that they were all occurring at the same indicated otherwise.
The townsfolk of Hyrule found themselves on edge. They were constantly looking over their shoulder, and a general sentiment of distrust seemed to be growing by the second. Even the friendliest townies looked at each other with wary eyes. But everyone still went about their daily lives - what else could they really do? There was a hero that was prophesied to save them from their problems, and he had yet to arrive. The townies still needed to run their businesses and take care of their families.
A few days passed, and the omens only got worse - the clouds around death mountain were beginning to glow, and the Zorans had broken off all communication. The Gerudians had gone silent as well. Many people decided they'd be safer living in Kakariko villiage because they'd be removed from the main city in case of an attack. But still, the town decided not to take action. People were simply allowing the events to play out.
It wasn't until word came from Kokori village that the Great Deku tree had been murdered that the town decided to acknowledge the severity of the situation. The Deku Tree was revered by all, not just the Kokori, and he had provided great protection for the land. The most worrisome part is that only the most trusted individuals could come into contact with the Great Deku tree - this confirmed that there was treachery within them.
Finally, someone snapped and declared that it was time to take action. They couldn't wait for the child of prophecy to come forward and save them, so they were going to have to pull themselves up by their boot straps and get rid of the forces of evil.
