So, it's going to be released in March (Atleast as of now), so this thread is mainly intended for what we should expect. Here are the games that are already confirmed:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Splatoon Switch (Possible Wii U Update)
Mario Kart Switch (Possible MK8 Update)
Cube Life: Island Survival
Just Dance 2017
Holiday 2017 Sonic Game
Dragon Quest X
Dragon Quest XI
NBA 2K
Untitled Steamworld Game
Untitled Mario Game
Untitled Sonic Game
Untitled Pokemon Game
So, in regards to the MK entry, here is what I observed in the trailer;
There is a double item slot which isn't featured in MK8 and King Boo is playable, that may just be the update, or they may actually go for a launch title for MK9, which would be pretty sweet!
A rumoured title is Super Mario Galaxy 3 (Fuck yeah). Also rumored is Skyrim, which would be pretty awesome, and it's also heavily featured within the trailer, which is here:
Looks pretty badass. Now just watch me buy it a couple months before it's next console release. I bought the DS in 2011, and bought the 3DS yesterday, lol. I'm so updated on everything. :p
I'll probably buy it. But it also could be the nail in the Nintendo coffin. At least when it come to home consoles.
Yeah, the Wii U was an absolute disaster. It shouldn't have had the term 'Wii' in the title at all, as that created much confusion for people that it was an extension to the Wii and not an entirely new console within itself. Nintendo was probably thinking they would be able to use the successful 'Wii' title for another console in hopes it'd create some hype, but it surely backfired.
But the main problem was the marketing, like damn, I don't think I've seen a company screw it's own new console over like Nintendo did with Wii U before it's release even.
So, they luckily went away with the 'Wii' title, which is good. Because the Will was a bright spot in Nintendo's legacy (the marketing was also superb), but it should be a thing of the past for good now.
I feel like if they market the Nintendo Switch good enough, it should gain some traction. With titles like Zelda, Mario and Pokemon it'll always reel people in, and all 3 of them are on NS' roster. So it's going to be interesting to see how it'll play out. They'd profit big time with a super bowl slot I think - to introduce the system to Western culture.
But it's assuring though that Nintendo is thriving in regards to the hand-held consoles!

I've always kinda wanted a 3ds, and ds before it, but never enough to actually buy it, I hope Switch can replace them for me as a handheld too.
Yeah, the Wii U kind of introduced the mix between home console/hand held a bit, but Switch is gonna go all out in that field.
I'm the same as you though, I just got the 3ds a couple days back but was super reluctant to buy it for the first couple years despite being very interested and involved with online dicussions, but so far it's worth it, I already have an 8-game library (bought like 200 dollars worth of games, ugh, I'm the worst).
But either way, Nintendo will continue making games for the 3DS, whereas they won't for the Wii U after Switch comes out. So that's why I'm mainly putting the Switch in the 'home-console' territory as it's replacing the Wii U. Despite it technically being both
Looks good. I've pretty much always owned each generation of Nintendo Console and this one looks like it has everything just right. Portable, third-party support and a non-painful control scheme. I'll get it but will wait for it to come down in price.
Might opt for Breath of the Wild on Wii U if I don't feel like waiting. Hopefully it'll be a similar experience to Twilight Princess in there will be little different, though that actually burned me because I waited for the Wii one and never finished due to not wanting to shake my arms every which way to proceed.
Still no word on a Metroid game. It's been years and the last real one was pretty terrible! I really hope they get a good team and make another. Retro still did it best.
I've only owned the handheld consoles, since GBC until the 3DS.
I wonder if Switch will be treated as "the" handheld for that upcoming generation too. If so, it will be the first Nintendo home console I'll acquire, since the 8th generation of Pokémon would debut there. ._.
(But with Just Dance and Mario Kart, I might get Switch still in 2016 if I can afford buying one. <.<)
I don't really care about the portability gimmick either way, but I'm excited to see Nintendo put out quality games again, since the Wii U has been starved for them lately. Super Mario Galaxy 3 (or any 3-D Mario really, based on the little we've seen in the video) would make me buy the system, and I'm extremely excited to see what Retro Studios has been cooking up.
That being said, I'm not going to go nuts over a reveal video for a game that likely won't come out 3+ years later (see: Kingdom Hearts III, Zelda: Breath of the Wild). I'm nervous that Nintendo is going to try and do that again with a new Mario title. Hopefully I'm wrong.
I haven't had a Nintendo console since the Gamecube (Mr. C had a Wii for strictly bowling and nothing else, but that doesn't count) but I'm oddly wanting to get this for some reason.
There's a presentation happening right now on Twitch! https://www.twitch.tv/nintendo
And the Switch'll be released on March 3rd for $300. Breath of the Wild is a launch title!
I'm hyped. I want it now more than before, but I'm gonna try to resist the temptation because I still want a new laptop and a new phone (and a passport).
just watched the Odyssey trailer and it did look p good tho. Kind of like a combination of Sunshine with the open world and Galaxy with the variety of locations
