I watched the first episode and liked it a lot. I kept reading that it's a great blend of Spielberg/Carpenter/King and that's vry accurate. I'm into it
i'm enjoying this show a lot! the action moves along at a really nice pace but I guess there's not a lot to draw out when you only have 8 episodes to work with.
Sheriff just cut open the fake dead body. I loved that part. I really wish they didn't make it super clear that it wasn't Will so that when the Sheriff is looking his body over and rips out the stuffing it'd be really shocking and satisfying (that he's still alive probably). Imagine how insane that'd be in the moment without any of the build up with the state suspiciously taking over. IT'D BE COOL
The small twists are mostly predictable so far because it's mostly stuff we've seen before but it's all still really well done. Really starting to like all the characters, especially the lead kids, Sheriff (my favorite), and the older brother. The music is also perfect
So I had to come here because I binged this entire show in less than 16 hours and it's seriously AMAZING. It's the best thing I've seen in a very long time (and I've seen some good stuff recently). It's such an awesome homage to Stephen King, Spielberg, and '80s Sci-Fi-Adventure/Horror in general. Every was character was fantastic. Winona Ryder was great as Will's mom Joyce. Then the actor who played Will was so adorable and convincing that I felt genuinely protective of and invested in him during the entire thing. Sheriff Hopper might be my favorite though. I identified with Nancy the most (she's an unexpected but total badass) and Jonathan was great too . . . hell I even liked Steve because he's such a three-dimensional character. The main kids remind me of the gang from The Goonies . . . Mike, Eleven, Lucas and Dustin were all lovable in their unique ways. The way they ended things was perfect too IMO; satisfying but left me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see what happens in Season 2.
really enjoying this so far. Definitely some obvious Spielberg/E.T. influences. There's already a ton of pretty well-drawn characters, I feel like on lesser shows the stuff with Will's mom and with Nancy would kinda drag, but I'm even really enjoying those storylines. Felt so bad for Barb tho :(((
So far I like Eleven and the group of boys the best, those scenes are really fun. Favorite part so far was when El tells what happened to Will using the D&D board
If I have a complaint so far it's that I kinda wish the alien stuff was kept a bit more subtle. e.g. the stuff with Will's mom and the phone was great, but the scenes where they actually show the alien are a bit...eh
I loved it. Adding a dark/horror/thriller spin on a classic 80's adventure story staring children made it pretty ideal for me, it was right up my alley. All the actors/characters were so great, Hopper and Eleven specifically, they were both amazing. Best scene of the series was probably Hopper's brutally sad flashbacks to his daughter while trying to resuscitate Will. That part got me
The main three kids were all great. Jonathan and Nancy were pretty great. Especially Jonathan. Hopper>Eleven>Lucas>Jonathan for my favorites. AND STEVE!!!!! You knew Steve was gonna go down the mega douchebag route by the end of the season, but I was really praying it wouldn't be so black and white and he'd end up having a bit of redemption. He definitely did, I kinda cheered when he showed back up and took the bat to the monster and didn't die
Only complaint is that they perhaps didn't throw enough intrigue/originality behind the government goons/their experiments/the monster, but they also didn't answer a whole lot of questions by the end of the season so maybe a second season will handle that a bit better. I AM really intrigued to see where Will's condition goes and whether Hopper knows that Eleven is out there or is trying to find her because he feels guilty that he sold her out. Rly hoping there's a second season
