A bright red phone blinks in the study. The butler, Alfred, who had been doing his daily dusting duties, answers the call.
"Yes, sir?"
James Gordon, the Police Commissioner is on the line.
"Get me Batman, please."
"Right away, sir," Alfred says as he hurries off to find his employer, millionaire Bruce Wayne.
Bruce, and his young ward, Dick Grayson are talking with Dick's aunt Harriet Cooper in the living room. Alfred discreetly interrupts and they excuse themselves to the study.
Bruce picks up the phone.
"Yes, Commissioner," he says.
"I'm afraid I have some dire news, Batman" Gordon begins. "Very early this morning, a bunch of the city's most dastardly criminals escaped from prison and are loose in Gotham. Only the Dynamic Duo can protect the Citizens and save us from this grave danger".
"We'll be there right away."
Bruce turns a switch concealed within a bust of Shakespeare that stands on his desk to reveal two fireman's poles hidden behind a sliding bookcase.
"To the Batpoles!" Bruce exclaims, and he and Dick slide down the poles that lead to the Batcave.
The Batmobile roars out of the Batcave and speeds off (but not above the speed limit, because even Batman is not above the law) towards Police Headquarters.
Batman and his trusty sidekick, Robin, arrive at the Commissioner's office to find him standing at his desk with Chief O'Hara by his side, pondering a situation.
"Saints alive! It's good to see you, Batman!" O'Hara shouts.
"And not a moment too soon. It's a lot worse than we could have imagined," Gordon says. "Witnesses say that some of your most dangerous adversaries have banded together and have started kidnapping civilians and are demanding your surrender."
"Holy hostage crisis!" Robin exclaims as he pounds his fist into his palm.
"Leave this to us, Commissioner. We will sort this out as quickly as possible. Our number one priority is making sure that no citizen is harmed," Batman reassures them, as they make their exit.
Moments later, in Gotham Town Square, masses of people have gathered --- some scared, some angry, but all wanting justice brought down on the people behind this latest crime wave.
"Look! It's Batman!" someone shouts.
"Batman will save us!" adds another.
"Yeah, by turning himself in!" shouts a third.
The crowd quickly turns on each other.
In the midst of all the chaos, a couple of normal-looking, law-abiding citizens throw a bag over someone's head before carrying them off and making their getaway. It seems that some of the escaped convicts have been hiding in plain sight, trying to blend in with the crowd.
Robin turns toward Batman and says, "We've got a serious problem on our hands."
But wait. The worst is yet to come!
It is now Day 1.
With 23 players alive, it takes 12 to lynch. Plurality is in effect.
Don't forget, with great power comes great responsibility!
that was another story...

"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."
