Only six were left. Eight of them had perished so far on the journey, and there was no sign of Curtis or Jeffrey the groundskeeper.

The remaining six exited Paul's bedroom. As everyone piled through the doorway, Zersch hung back when he saw something out of the corner of his eye. It was the portrait or Paul, again. Zersch eyed it carefully for a few moments.



"Zersch, are you coming?" Natalie called. Zersch snapped out of it and met back up with the group.

Everyone piled into the hallway. A long, red carpet led down the middle. The wallpaper was elegant, but peeling from the walls. The corridor's were wide and were lined with portraits and suits of armor.

Shadow banged his head against the wall until his forehead began to bleed. KC yanked him away from the wall and back into the line. A sinister smile crept over Shadow's face.

The group reached the end of the hall. At the very end, mounted on the wall, was a grand mirror. Shadow approached and nearly smashed his head through it, but was pulled back once again.

"Left or right?" Kiwi asked the group. Everyone shrugged. They took a left and walked down the long hall.

About halfway down, KC noted a stain of blood on the wall. He looked over at Shadow's bloody, raw forehead.

"Wait a minute..." he began. The group stopped. "We were just here..."

"I think it just looks the same?" replied Kiwi.

"No I'm telling you, we were just in this hallway."

Zersch flung open a nearby doorway. It was Paul's room.

"How is that possible?!" yelled Frankenvern.

"We've seen a lot of impossible things in here." KC replied. "...we're stuck in here."

Zersch closed the door to Paul's room, shooting a final glance at that portrait on the wall. As the door closed, the eyes on the portrait shifted.



Inside of the wall, in a tight passage way, a figure stood against the wall and peered through the eyes of Paul's portrait. It was Curtis.

"They're gone." he giggled. "For some reason they came back in, but they're gone now."

Curtis wasn't alone. He was speaking to someone standing nearby in the shadows.

"I still can't believe how real you made that all look. I nearly shit my pants when Lamps was 'electrocuted' and when Perry fell. I don't know how you pulled those off." Curtis said, to no response.

"So what now?" asked Curtis.

The figure stirred in the darkness and took a step towards Curtis. He began to speak.

"Now.....we follow them."

He stepped out of the darkness and into the glow from Curtis' lantern. The light illuminated his face.

It was none other than Von Paulus.
