So I've made the discovery that I haven't purchased a new game (as in an actual new release) in months, and I have no desire to change this. Has the industry stagnated or have I just gotten bored with it?

I still play plenty of old games but that's the thing, I'm good with playing the same old games over and over without buying anything new. Maybe I just don't feel like paying to buy new games, it's just not exciting for me anymore. The latest E3 had nothing to captivate me at all. In years gone by it'd be an exciting time.

I've never been THAT avid of a gamer but I haven't bought a new release in over a year and the only games I really want to buy in the future are SSB4 and HL3 but who knows when those will come out (especially the latter). I think I've just grown bored with most games especially considering the majority of new games coming out seem to be either FPS or stupid casual games

Though I do think WATCH DOGS from this past E3 looked pretty damn good.

I'm getting so sick of all the shovelware and the rampant rise of the FPS. Creative games have always been more enjoyable for me.

I really don't like what the big wigs have done to the industry, turning it into a moneygrab. Obviously it always was one, but never before have I seen the industry become so... soulless, I guess. I don't know.

I haven't bought a new game in a long time either, mostly because I'm poor but partly because I just don't want to anymore. For the last few years there's been maybe 2-3 games per year that got me interested. Before I would rent them, but the last place I could do that in my town shut down a few months ago, so I'm at a bit of a loss...

I generally dont buy new games unless theres one I've already played that I liked or I hear a lot of good things, etc. Minus Portal 1 and 2 I haven't bought any in the past year either, but then again I never really did much anyway.

Also, this. I actually like FPS games, which is why it's depressing to see that it's fueling the industry so much. If people will buy it no matter what, the developers will feel less of a need to innovate. Just depressing all around, really.

This years E3 had to be the worst one yet.

I don't think the industry is in a good state at the moment. I read an article recently about a pissed off Diablo III player (never played any of the series myself but I hear its quite good!), who was complaining about having to sign into an online account just to play the single player game. And if their connection is down, they couldn't play at all.

More and more games appear to be have been doing shit like this recently. Its as if they all looked at the success of facebook and said:

"Gee this thing sure is popular, we should force it upon all our customers!"

And then you have the success of fucking COD (which is a total fucking mystery to me) and all its carbon copy rip off's.

I am tired of FPS's now. A healthy decision for all developers would be to stop making FPS's, with the exception of battlefront 3, which totally needs to happen.

I don't play games as much as I used to, but I can easily get hooked when a good one comes along.

At the moment I am completely addicted to crusader kings 2, possibly the nerdiest game in existence. It shouldn't be fun but it is. Any strategy fans here should check it out.

I buy games and put them on a shelf. Every few months I will put one in and it will click with me. I think Mass Effect 1/2 were the last two to really hook me. I still haven't played 3, even though I went to the midnight release and got the CE and the hardback strategy guide.

Well I totally just threw Arkham City under the bus - absolutely loved that game.

But otherwise, I think I stand by what I told you when I said I had more fun playing Labyrinth 2 than any videogame in quite a while.

The mass effect series is probably one of my favourite set of games of all time.

Does this include 3? If you throw your hat in the ring for it I'm going to start it tonight. But yeah, I loved ME 1/2 - easily my favorite RPG in a while. And best space RPG since... Phantasy Star IV. IMO

YES

Labyrinth was like a good MMO.

It is the only good MMO I have played in fact. And I have played WoW.

LABYRINTH IS BETTER THAN WORLD OF WARCRAFT.

What is that old adage about MMOs?

"Free, good, or ....something - pick two"

Labyrinth 2 was all three. Whatever that third one is.

I think the general consensus with 3 is that it was great but had a bad ending.

My opinion is that it was better than the first but not as good as the second.

The ending leaves a lot to the imagination so you have to be prepared for the fact that you won't have a long cut scene at the end answering every question you can think of.

So many people complained about the ending that they released a free DLC just to expand on it (unnecessary in my opinion. I downloaded it anyway, but haven't got around to installing it yet...that is how bothered I am).

But whether you end up thinking the ending sucks or not, I would always recommend playing it.

Since I see a lot of people saying 1 was better than 2, and I also thought 2 was better than 1 (maybe not the storyline, but since it's one big storyline I don't really count that) I'm p. sure I'll dig it. My copy of Mass Effect 3 thanks you for buying its freedom from the shelf.

Did you play on the PC or console? I've got it on the 360. I'm guessing I'd need to resub for gold in order to do the multiplayer stuff since IIRC it is somewhat vital to the endgame, right?

I played on PC with no multiplayer help and I did just fine. No need to resubscribe in my opinion.
