new limited series from FX, first two eps just dropped. Got gr8 reviews

ep 1 was good! I did get some flashbacks of early GOT in multiple ways, mostly with how many characters there are to keep track of. Really liking Blackthorne, and Hiroyuki Sanada is cool af as usual. Also a Nestor Carbonell sighting! Almost didn't recognize him, definitely a very different character for him lol

some BRUTAL deaths here, the man boiled alive was especially rough. And the dude's head being sliced as the first bit of onscreen violence took me off guard only ding on the show is some very rough CGI. Can tell they don't have that HBO budget here

how's this been?

I'm only thru ep 4 but it's been SOLID. The premiere was still the best part so far. Past couple eps have been mostly table-setting so I'm sure it's gonna start heating up again soon

Character work has been hit or miss but I'm still loving Blackthorne. Mariko has been getting progressively more interesting too

ep 5 was def the best yet

that poor gardener :( can't wait for Blackthorne / Buntaro's conflict to come to a head. Their spat in this was a great scene

Great set up, I was immediately invested and they made sure the plot/characters weren't overwhelming. Some shows do 2MUCH to start! I looked away quick and missed the decapitation so that was a bummer, had to rewind. Would've been a cool surprise out of nowhere had I caught it. But agreed, the boiled to death scene was brutal Two seppuku teases in the first ep. Chekov's seppuku!! I fear it'll be Sanada as a Ned Start esque s1 ending death but I hope not, he's so good. Cool to see the lead from Giri/Haji (underrated, on Netflix!) as a villain (presumably)

This was probably the better show to watch than the three body problem.

I really liked the way they did that first translation scene with the priest (or whatev) as the translator. When his voice fades out and it looks like the two leads are just talking The bandit scene and assassin scene were some nice bits of action, I like the way the show does these brief violent moments Having a bit of trouble following the ~politics of it all but that might be due to me watching half of this episode last week and the other half today. Allegiances are a little cloudy to me too but maybe that's the point. I do think the show does a pretty good job of feeding you some of that stuff

yeah the politics murkiness still hasn't fully went away for me, not sure if binging rather than weekly watching would've helped that or not. Kinda wish I would've read the book first
