"Natalie has been completely silent this entire time," Boc decreed, having somehow managed to retain a measure of his sanity. "That is the obvious mark of evil."

"I agree," said Ari.

"Mboga nyingi ni chanzo muhimu cha nyuzi malazi," chimed in Angi.

Natalie said nothing.

"Do you have anything to say in your defence, Natalie?" demanded Ari.

Natalie said nothing.

"Kill her!" cried Boc.

Natalie said nothing.

Angi nodded menacingly.

Natalie said nothing.

So they killed her.

Natalie, of course, said nothing.

Natalie, AKA Agent Beta, CDC Intelligence Officer, has been killed.

Role: Intelligence Officer

Flavour: You and your team have been sent to the apartment complex to contain the infection that’s been triggered there. You’ve been assigned to investigate possible bio-terrorist targets. This apartment complex was flagged as a possible haven for a group of radicals, and your department has acquired extensive dossiers on each of the inhabitants. Since you’re well aware of their habits, you know just how to predict their behaviours, and can use that information to your advantage.

Ability: Once per night you may choose a player to roleblock. They will be unable to use their ability for the next round. Also, you will gain executive control of the team if Agent Alpha is killed.

Win Condition: You win when all Civilian players are dead.

Trading high fives, the three survivors sat back and relaxed. The CDC agents were dead. Things were going to be okay.

Until, of course, an undead, drooling Mercator showed up. Dodging the ravenous infected veterinarian, Boc, Angi, and Ari fled for the safety of an open apartment - which turned out to contain a screaming undead Henry. The dead CDC leader chased them up the stairs. Angi slipped, and Henry seized her ankle. Screaming in Swahili, she kicked at Henry, who staggered back, and fell down the stairs.

The three continued climbing, while the shrieks of the infected echoed throughout the building.

Eventually, they made it to the attic room at the top of the stairs. Locking the door, the three of them huddled together, listening to moans and wails of the infected as they tore through the building in search of fresh meat.

They waited, for two whole days.

Eventually, the CDC decided that the virus should have weakened and killed any who'd been infected by it, and stormed the building. Uniformed riot police searched the building room by room, gunning down any infected who remained standing.

Eventually they reached the attic apartment and released the three who were hiding there. They were given a brief checkup, answered a number of questions, then headed downstairs for processing. The agents reviewed their dossiers:

Flavour: You’re just a young, idealistic reporter who shadowed a pair of firemen into the apartment complex as part of a special network feature. Now you’re locked in, and you’re feeling like you’re in way over your head with this whole murder and mayhem business. As the bodies start to pile up, you’re going to get more and more freaked out, perhaps until you snap all together...
Ability: Your squeamishness makes you incapable of casting hammer votes. Additionally, you must immediately choose three other players in the cast and PM their names to me. After the first one dies, every post you make MUST be in all capital letters. After the second one dies, every sentence must also end in an exclamation point. After the third sentence, every sentence must also be in red font. You cannot explain why.

Ability: All night actions which target you will be randomly directed towards another player. Additionally, you may not start any lynch trains.

Role: Vigilante

Flavour: You’re a government agent who’s been shadowing a group of bio-terrorists who you believe are plotting an attack on the United States. Tonight, your worst fears came true – one of the terrorists, known only as The Man from Boston, has unleashed a deadly virus in the apartment complex. You’ve been thoroughly briefed, and you can spot the symptoms of the virus early. The contagion must be stopped – the fate of the entire free world is at stake.

Ability: Once per night, you may choose a player to scan. You will be told whether or not this player has contracted the virus. If so, you may choose to heal them. If you scan The Man From Boston, you will automatically kill him. Additionally, since you’re equipped to deal with the virus, you cannot contract it unless directly injected by The Man from Boston.

Win Condition: You win when The Man from Boston and either all Civilian or all CDC players are dead, AND all virus-infected players are either dead or cured.

As soon as Phelps revealed his credentials, the CDC agents began to flock around him, offering their sincere apologies for how they'd handled the quarantine. The government agent was escorted to a secure trailer and given a cup of coffee while he attempted to get in touch with his superiors. A nervous-looking CDC official hovered behind him. "Glad to see that you made it out, Agent Phelps," he babbled.

"I would have made it out a lot sooner if your moron brigade hadn't continually tried to kill me and everybody else in the building," Ari snapped.

"We couldn't take any chances," the man insisted.

"Bull," Ari grunted. "Anyway, the virus is contained now, and -"

There was a scream from outside. Ari shoved the CDC official out of the way, and booted open the trailer door.

Boc stood in the early dawn, face and hand smeared with the blood of Angi, who lay on the floor with a gaping hole in her chest. Boc's eyes were bloodshot, the unmistakeable hallmark of the infected.

Ari reached for his gun, but not fast enough. Boc bolted away, leapt a barricade, and vanished into an alleyway.

The agent lowered his pistol. This wasn't the end.

It was only just beginning.

End Result: Town Win

A bit of clarification on how the virus worked: As the flavour text hinted, the virus would spread throughout the cast according to how players interacted with one another. If a player visited, or was visited by an infected player for any reason, they would contract the virus. This resulted in the Town win, as opposed to a joint Town/Third Party victory. Boc was roleblocked by Natalie on the last night, and Ari chose not to use his scan at all. So, Boc ended the game carrying the virus, and since an infected person was still alive at the end of the game, Ari didn't achieve his wincon.

In terms of actual game function, the virus lay dormant for two days, after which an infected player would have turned feral and become essentially a third-party vigilante role with a randomized daykill. By sheer coincidence, every single player who would have undergone the transformation was killed before they could actually turn, which is why it wound up never playing a prominent role. (This, incidentally, is why everybody's flavour text specifically stated that all players on the opposing side had to die in order to achieve victory, since the virus meant that even if one side had achieved a numbers advantage they could still wind up dying before the other side did.)

If a few kills/lynches had gone differently, it's entirely possible that the game would have proceeded much differently.

If I was going to run this game over again, I'd probably shorten the incubation period, but I was worried that it would become overpowered and wind up ending the game much earlier than normal. When I ran a simulation using the shorter incubation period, everybody except Henry wound up dead by day 4. (And Jen's role wound up killing more people than the CDC did.)

Nobert was the best character in the game.

Kiwi was temporarily infected, and passed it on to Natalie. He was immediately treated by two separate doctors, so the infection did not spread. Curtis would have become infected by both Henry and Kiwi, if he hadn't died.

Ari scans Angi (negative result)

Natalie's infection progresses. Henry would have gone feral if he hadn't been lynched.
