Guess I'll jump on this bandwagon (: I've been playing a bit more singleplayer games lately but would like to do even more since there's SO much in my backlog that are either half-finished or untouched. So maybe this is the motivation I need! Or more likely I'll end up doing like 10% of these before abandoning it. Time will tell!

There's way more untouched/unfinished games in my library than just these, mostly impulsive buys of Steam sales past, but I'm narrowing it down to the ones I can realistically see myself committing to finishing

PC
Outer Wilds (In Progress)
Disco Elysium (In Progress)
Life is Strange 2 (In Progress)
Mass Effect 1 Legendary Edition (In Progress)
Gone Home
The Complex
Dishonored 2
Everything
King's Quest
A Plague Tale: Innocence
Pony Island
Suicide Guy
Unforgiving - A Northern Hymn
The Witness
Mass Effect 2 Legendary Edition
Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition
Kentucky Route Zero
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
OMORI
Half-Life: Alyx
Neo Cab
GRIS
Thumper
The Forgotten City
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (Complete)
Night in the Woods (Complete)
Gorogoa (Complete)
Before Your Eyes (Complete)
Batman - The Telltale Series (Complete)
Tiny Bunny (Complete)
The Artful Escape (Complete)
Valiant Hearts: The Great War (Abandoned)
Chicken Police - Paint it RED! (Abandoned)
SOMA (Abandoned)
WHAT THE GOLF? (Abandoned)

PS5
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Bugsnax
HITMAN 3 (Complete)

I'm playing Batman: The Enemy Within currently, which is the second of the Telltale games. I am enjoying it more than the first, but that may be because of everything that happened in the first game.

speaking of Night in the Woods! First one down

Posted Image

Rating: 7.5/10

Nice lil indie, very much in the mold of something like Oxenfree where the majority of the gameplay is just reading dialogue and occasionally picking options. Which I happen to love! It does mix in a bit of platforming too but nothing crazy

I really liked the dialogue in this, obviously what a game like this hinges on and it definitely was the strong point. It had a lot of quirky yet somewhat naturalistic dialogue but now and then would hit you with some moments of profundity out of nowhere

Art direction and music were really great

There was a sequence in this that unironically was the most suspenseful I've played through in a game in some time. And that's WITH the relative lack of gameplay! Just the way they pan the camera, use of lighting, dialogue, etc is so well done, throughout the game really but particularly in that part. Really impressive direction

As for the negatives...the story itself is where the game does falter a bit, it had an intriguing enough setup but never quite came together by the end. Didn't LOVE the resolution to the mysteries it set up, it did feel a bit incongruous to what the rest of the game was about. Almost felt forced in there to keep things more enticing rather than just being based on relationships? But don't think it was entirely needed. Could've just let the mystery be tbh

I don’t even recall there being any sort of “mystery” whatsoever.

The Batman telltale is really good. Especially the second season, but I still enjoyed the first one.

Would you recommend Night in the Woods? I loved Oxenfree so your right up was intriguing.

they are absolutely nothing like each other.

Oxenfree is an amazing game. NITW is relatively boring even though it starts off in a fun-ish way and you have high hopes.

lol Vern apparently didn't even reach the core of the plot which starts like 1/3 of the way through the game. You have no room to talk!

I think if you liked something like Oxenfree you'd enjoy it ya. Comparing the two, I did like Oxenfree a bit more but they each have their own strengths. Mainly, NitW delves deeper into its characters (+ has stronger dialogue) and makes you feel more for them by the end, whereas Oxenfree is more plot-driven and has a more satisfying conclusion to its central mystery
