Upon hearing of a tie vote over on Rictusempra, Cormac was sure it would be Fred, Ron or Lockhart leaving the game and he was downcast to lost Fred or Ron, but not so much Lockhart. Cormac was able to forgive Lockhart for leaving him in the dark when Rita, Ron, and Cormac were all blindsided when Lockhart made the rogue decision to work with Lily despite ensuring Cormac's survival while he was petrified. Cormac could forgive, yes, but he would not forget, and neither, it appeared, had Ron. During the merge feast and auction, Cormac took the time to gather as much information as he could concerning the dynamics of the game now that Snape was out and everyone was together for the first time since the very beginning.
Lockhart was extremely forthcoming, he said that he, Ron and Fred all voted Amos as a way to flush as many idols as possible before the merge. Mirabella and Newt voted for Snape for reasons still unknown, but it is assumed because Snape was able to retrieve the Hufflepuff Idol, more on that later. Meanwhile, Snape and Amos both voted for Mirabella and Snape used an item on Mirabella keeping her from using the Gryffindor idol.
From there, Amos explained how Newt was furious with him for not voting for Snape even though Mirabella had warned Amos to use the Ravenclaw Idol. Amos, however, revealed that Mirabella's warning had come too late. He had already played his idol and submitted his vote for her. Thus, Amos became safe while Snape and Mirabella were left in a deadlock. Despite Snape's unanswered pleas and Lockhart's insistence, Ron flipped and disposed of Snape, having had enough of Lockhart dictating the events in the game.
Cormac believed all that had transpired to be good news. The Ravenclaw idol was used correctly, The Hufflepuff idol may have gone home with Snap,e and it was common knowledge Mirabella still had possession of the Gryffindor idol. There were very few surprises left in the game but Cormac was not about to let his chance be missed to center himself inside an alliance that could very well carry him deep into the game.
He approached Fred and told him everything he had learned from Minerva about Angelina, Amos, Snape and their hunt for the combination to the Hufflepuff idol. Cormac was certain he knew which digit he did not have correct and gave Fred the information he needed to break into the common room where he discovered the idol had indeed been taken. Fred also had unexpected news regarding the Hufflepuff idol, it was bound by loyalty and the only way to use the idol was to pass it on to another player and hope to get it back. Cormac was almost certain now that Snape may not have gone home with the idol in his pocket after all... but who was he likely to give it too? Amos? Angelina?... or the third person to whom Cormac became aware was upset at losing Snape... Lily Potter. If Cormac had to make an educated guess, he would put Lily on the top of that short list. Lily was sweet, Lily was charming, Lily could very well have had Snape in her pocket the entire time. If anyone in the game still had that idol, it would be Lily.
So Cormac set to work. With the auction over and both he and Lily having secret items given to them, Cormac decided the best policy was blunt action. He wasted no time asking Lily what it was she had received, while also letting her know he got a worthless broom servicing kit. It transpired that Lily received the famed invisibility cloak, enabling her to disappear for a single round, not attend tribal council and not be voted for in return. Cormac knew this was his time to strike. He struck up the idea of a loyal alliance of players. Knowing what he knew about Angelina and Amos, Lily made it clear she wanted the two of them involved. What came as a surprise was the inclusion of Fred, but it was hardly a huge surprise since Fred stood by Lockhart's side in the revote that sent Snape packing. Lily also wanted to include Lockhart, but Cormac stressed that he was unsure of Lockhart's loyalty. Lockhart was a wild card who ran rogue when it suited him and if there was going to be a sixth person, he felt more comfortable with Pomfrey than with Lockhart. Lily seemed to agree and Cormac amended that he would not mind if Lockhart became their seventh. Seven, after all, was a magic number. Lily seemed much more open to the idea and thus began Cormac's initial plan.
It was common knowledge that Lockhart was feuding with Mirabella. Lockhart began immediately building an army against her fishiness and Cormac became wary. He felt it was a ploy to lower other players guards. Cormac believed he knew how Lockhart operated now and he was not about to fall into a trap set by the lying scoundrel. If anything, the fact that Mirabella's idol was exposed meant she was more then likely to use it on herself. This meant, in order to flush the idol, one of Draco, Ron, Newt or Maxime would be the primary target vote if the alliance came together as he hoped. This would likely mean they would vote for Lockhart. If Cormac could gain enough trust within the pending seven-person group, he was certain he could turn spy and give Mirabella the information to use her idol correctly, save one of the other four, and also eliminate Lockhart, one of the most dangerous players in the game.
Cormac knew he would have to be as stealthy as possible to get away with what he was hopefully about to accomplish. He knew Fred had become the Heir of Slytherin for the round. If he could somehow convince Fred to use his power on Mirabella, it would present a blatantly false message that the alliance would want her out, even as the plan to oust another in Draco, Ron, Newt or Maxime was set into action. There was the slight chance Mirabella would not take the risk but Cormac could not risk losing Ron. If there was one player he needed in the game to make his ultimate goals a reality, it was Ron. Mirabella was key to taking Lockhart and his shifty ways out of the game. The alliance could move forward from that point and remove Draco, Newt, and Maxime, but Cormac had plans for Ron and finally eliminating the group of Angelina, Amos and, his biggest threat in the game, Lily.
With a plan in motion, Cormac listed his tribemates and how well he had communicated with them thus far based on O.W.L. grades: (O)utstanding, (E)xceeds Expections, (A)cceptable, (P)oor, (D)readful, (T)roll.
1. Amos Diggory - E
2. Angelina Johnson - P
3. Draco Malfoy - A
4. Fred Weasley - O
5. Lily Potter - O
6. Gilderoy Lockhart - E
7. Madame Maxime - P
8. Madame "Poppy" Pomfrey - A
9. Mirabella Plunkett - A
10. Newt Scamander - P
11. Ron Weasley - O
He would certainly need to pick up the pace with Angelina but Cormac was hopeful he would succeed and begin his slow climb to the top. It was indeed time to put on his big boy panties and make a seriously risky move. | |
