This is a really great question, and I had to really think about this answer all day today when I probably should have been working because it is a tough for me to answer.
This is me thinking
I tried to define my game here by thinking outside of the box and being bold, but most of the leaders out there right now, especially the political leaders, tend to play it very safe and are extremely cautious to not say or do risky things.
Then I saw the bar was being set at Trump. Which is a pretty odd choice to choose for yourself honestly but hey, if ron can pick a pseudo-authoritarian, I guess I can too!
This isn't a perfect match because I don't think I was as ruthless and vindictive as he can be, but I'm gonna go with...
VLADIMIR PUTIN
Lmao.
I do NOT condone his policies in anyway, but looking at it from a style perspective there are some similarities.
1)
Putin is unusually bold and creative for a political leader. He uses a lot of pretty wild and unorthodox strategies to try to solidify his place in a position of power in Russia and around the world, from his interference in elections to his propaganda and targeting of opponents before they can undermine him. I also tried to use new strategies that other players hadn't thought of before or hadn't dared to attempt. Which leads me to #2
2)
We both made fake social media accounts and used them to try and influence votes. This is a very literal comparison to make, but it's a pretty specific link between us. The Instagram account was intended to mislead and distract people so it was a very #fakenews style strategy. I'm starting to feel uncomfortable about this Putin comparison.
3)
Putin does a lot of things in the shadows, but he isn't afraid of the spotlight. Even though Putin is known for being a former spy and using clandestine tactics to try and interfere internationally, he also knows the advantages that can come with being a figurehead. Everyone knows Putin is up to something, but they don't know what, when or where it will manifest itself and the uncertainty makes it dangerous to oppose him and try to undermine his position. In an ORG, Putin would be a high-visibility player who would be seen as a threat, but people would be very uncomfortable voting for him assuming he had something up his sleeve.
BONUS
Have you noticed that when people challenge Trump, he's started to claim that has always been tough, the toughest on Russia and Putin, believe me! (I'm paraphrasing).
Actually, I googled it and yesterday the White House said
But when you look at actions, Trump never actually did anything to stop Putin and Russia's influence operations even though he had plenty of chances to take action while evidence was coming out. He actively went out and defended Putin at times, helping stop other people from targeting Putin for being a security threat and trying to influence votes.
But now that a grand jury is investigating Trump to see if he got to where he is today largely thanks to Putin's help, Trump is claiming he was always against Putin and didn't actually want to or need to work with him. I would like to think that if Trump really thought Putin was such a threat (which he should have because Putin had a lot of influence), he would have actually done something about it before now.
I take back what I said about Trump being an odd choice.
