So, I know I haven’t said a ton, other than my vague ass strategy coming in, but HERE WE GO MONOLITH CONFESSIONAL ARE YOU READY?
First off, coming into the game itself, I, SHOCKINGLY ENOUGH, talked to people. Brief assessment of how I felt about them:
RUDY: Ted is basically playing non-alias (no new AIM, same Rudy schtick, etc.) so I know pretty much what to expect from him, what he’s like, etc. which is honestly an invaluable tool. But I like Ted, so me being one of the people who does know who he is shouldn’t really hurt him - we’ve had some pretty dang funny conversations and all that good stuff. Was sad he didn’t end up on my tribe, but he actually put a good word in with Rupert for me which was nice of him. I think if I swap with him, he’s a dude I can count on, so I’m keeping relations up with him.
CRYSTAL: I had a really fun conversation with Crystal night one, even though I was tired and probably not 100% on my social game, and I was hoping to end up with her. Having said that, while I am keeping relationships with her, she sketches me out a bit. Asking about my tribe dynamics out of the blue, prodding about the challenge - it just made her prior interaction seem somewhat disingenuous. And when I returned volley, she stonewalled me - “Oh my tribe is PERFECT.” Girl if you want information you gotta give it, this ain’t a one-way street. I think she’s a player that butters people up, which are a dime a dozen, but the scary thing is she had me, and even now I still vaguely like her - That. Is. Scary. And maybe I’m over-reading things (wouldn’t be the first, wouldn’t be the last) but I do think she is waaaaaaay more of a schemer than she shows herself as.
JACLYN: Speaking of disingenuous people, I had a nice (if somewhat average) conversation with Jaclyn. This is the first active Jaclyn I’ve seen in forever (granted the last active one was Alina who was SUPER active) and she seems nice enough. But it felt a tad forced to me - not like “OMG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH HAVE MY BABIES” or anything, but forced nonetheless. Apparently she was one of the more active people in chatting, so I’m gonna keep an eye on her - the people that come off as middling are the biggest threats, in my opinion, to win the whole shebang. Hell my whole strategy is based around that idea.
Anyway, those are the people I had strong-ish opinions - I talked to a bunch more, but nothing THAT noteworthy there. ON TO MY ACTUAL TRIBE WOO. Wait fuck there’s no Woo in this game.

Rupert is, along with myself and to an extent Caleb, the most active person on the tribe. We got along pretty well in one-on-one convos, and we seem to be on the same page strategically. At this stage in the game he’s probably the person I trust the most to be forthright with me, to be completely honest, just because active people tend to band together. I’m trying to be his #2, Assistant Coach, to him leading the tribe - and I think it’s working.
I think Caleb is a nice guy, but I feel like he’s a bit awkward in one-on-one convo’s. I remember he kept messaging me about the challenge, how to approach it, and I had to kept directing him to the group chat like “IDK IM NOT THE LEADER.” (God I’m sure a huge part of why we dragged in that challenge is because no one wanted to take charge.) Rudy also told me he helped Caleb figure out and set up his AIM, so I got the sense he was an ORG newbie, until Rupert got some information from him about Michael. (More on that later.)
Having said that, seemingly everyone I talk to is like “I like Caleb, he seems nice,” which is evidently warranted, but I feel like my relationship with him isn’t overly great, at least on my end. I did have a fun convo about Survivor with him today, so maybe he’s just taking a bit to get accustomed to my personality. Or maybe it’s me - Rupert told me Caleb approached him about me/him/rupert working together, and he’s said multiple times he likes me to my face. I’ll probably take that deal and make a three person thing with it sometime in the future, but I need Rupert to lead the charge there.
Someone who I am aligned with at the moment is Drew. Drew is interesting, in that, when he’s engaged, I feel like he’s very good at chatting to people, very personable, a tad bit syncopathic at times but everyone in ORGs plays that up to some degree. His only real issue is that he’ll drop conversations without a word, only to come back after some random interval - he must get bored easily, even if he’s doing well showing interest and reciprocating. I felt like I was one of his solid bonds, so I capitalized on that during the scrambling last night - again, more on that later. I’m not sure how reliable he’ll be down the line, but hopefully his activity picks up later - I get the sense we have similar mindsets about a lot of things.
Jefra is a delight to talk to in one-on-one conversations. Apparently she had real life stuff come up, and didn’t really help in the challenge...like...in the slightest. Having said that, everyone really likes her, and her name wasn’t thrown around as a boot target - hell I wasn’t even really considering it myself. If her activity levels pick up, she could prove a very useful ally, and someone fun to chat with - and probably dangerous for the same reasons, given her stable positioning this round. (Also, I learned from Trish on RHAP the other day that irl Jefra’s father is named Jeff, and I find this fact hilarious.)
Sekou...is Sekou. I feel like he’s a smart guy, and he’s funny, but the activity just isn’t there. Like, he’s around on AIM, but he isn’t AROUND - like, to talk and stuff, y’know? So his name was thrown out there as one of the targets, but we seem to have settled on Michael. But, provided the Michael vote goes through as planned, Sekou’s in a shaky spot barring some sort of switch-up. And, while I like him well enough, I don’t really trust him, so I ain’t inclined to change that. Shame, cause it’s a really cool rep choice, and I kinda dig the character he’s going for. *shrugs* Oh well.
Finally, Michael is the probably boot tonight, barring shenanigans. He was inactive for a while, then showed up and was OK in the groupchat and mainchat, had some decent barbs. But he’s still dreadful one-on-one, at least with me - I couldn’t get anything of substance from him, and eventually I just stopped trying to. Also, apparently Caleb played with him in a previous game, told Rupert he recognized him. For SOME reason Rupert told the hosts this - the good will is there, but you can’t stop yourself from recognizing someone, y’know? Anyway, he SHOULD be going unanimously, as far as I know.
So, this TC came at the worst possible time for me. I was in a Genius main match tonight, which I bombed spectacularly anyway (but then had that super cool recovery in the Death Match Final 3 woot woot) and so I was both trying to think in that game as well as scramble here. So I’m a little worried I came off as too forceful, as rushing things, but I wanted to get something set up tonight - I probably wouldn’t go this vote regardless, but I’m not comfortable enough to think a majority couldn’t form without me.
So I talked around, starting with Rupert. Said I wanted to work with him, he dug it, we decided on a four person thing. I talked to Drew, tried to make it seem like we were forming this (again, rushed, so not sure how well the timing came off) and brought Jefra in as well. So that’s my four on this tribe at the moment, leaving Snowy, Sekou, and Caleb on the outs.
I dissapeared after I made the chat (NOT HAPPY I ended up making that, fuckin’ bad timing) for like ten minutes, which could have been bad - but when I returned things seemed to go well enough, chatting wise. Part of me worries people were like “wtf is Matty doing no one talked in there for ten minutes he’s overplaying” but I feel like that isn’t the case, not entirely at least. I then had to completely disappear because I was losing HARD in the main match and on my way to the death match in The Genius - gonna reconfirm with people today, so everything feels more natural, people aren’t wary of me, seeing me as some uber threat, etc.

So, not a lot to talk about this round. (Sorry guys I know you must be deeply upset about this.) Like, NO ONE ON MY TRIBE TALKS. I can do some strategic maneuvering, sure, but 99% of the time there’s no reason to be on AIM. My messages will go to people “online” and not responded to for hours. Like, C’MON PEOPLE.
Having said that, I did manage to get some decent chats going. Had a really fun one bitching to Kelly about a bitchy cashier in my dining hall, and I think venting in that sort of way to someone your not especially close to helps build bonds. Also I just really wanted to vent about BECAUSE SHE WAS SERIOUSLY AWFUL. But I like Kelly, she has a similar sense of humor to me, and I feel like if we swapped I’d have a foundation to work off of, which is cool. Granted, she’s probs in the majority on her tribe, so might have to scratch that, but who fuckin’ knows.
In other news, the three person Caleb/Rupert/Matty alliance finally launched off. (I should really remember to add the hosts to these sometimes, but no one talks in them for such extended periods that it’d be odd if I just randomly put hosts in.) Rupert and I talked to Caleb, and Rupert was messaging me everything Caleb was saying, so I feel somewhat confident in that relationship.
I did have a mini panic attack when Rupert sent me a c/p of Caleb mentioning I’d already mentioned it to him, because I didn’t want Rupert to think he wasn't at the core of this decision making, and also didn’t wanna come off as shady. but either he doesn’t care that much, didn’t notice, or is plotting my imminent blindside. (I like to think one of these three is less probably by a pretty significant margin.) But that’s up and running right now, so I feel good about my placement in this tribe.
Part of me is thinking “man I should throw and boot Sekou” but we don’t know when the tribe swap is coming up. (In fact this round could be a swap, given that he advised we be on at challenge time - that’d be a pretty good reason.) Sekou is the easy boot right now, and I’d rather not waste that if I don’t have to - on top of that, it’s not like I have a BAD relationship with him. It’s just not a strategic one, which could bite me in the ass depending on how numbers shake out, especially if Sekou’s perceptive enough to realize his position or my own.
But yeah, that’s all I really got at the moment. A bit of general bonding and all that happy-go-lucky stuff, but like I said - INCREDIBLY quiet tribe a lot of the time. We discuss challenges in the groupchat (also go me actually got some points for my tribe in a non-commanding way see I’m learning) but like, the one-on-one just isn’t there. From my perspective, anyway, and compared to my other experiences - for the others, maybe those who played PM games, maybe this is hyper-active. Idek but I’m ending it here bai.
Hey we're immune, neat. I'll delay that longform confessional for a bit since I don't need to explain my actions for a TC. I actually found out we were immune a bit beforehand, cause Rudy told me his team's time and I knew we couldn't lose. Anyway, preview for next confessional: JP is an idiot, I'm apparently alligned with everyone, and idol clues are fun to give away.
OK, so I think I might have just gotten an idol? Which would be hilarious because I just went to the board on a whim like “I’m gonna take a shot at this idol thing, we’ll see how it goes.” Rudy told me he went through all of Kenny’s posts, but I figured fuck it, I’ll take a look for myself and look for edits. (We were obsessing over some edit Kenny made to the check-in thread the other day on the 80’s board, which I’m half convinced Jason did to fuck with our heads.) So I’m looking through it, and I see an edit in the right timeframe Kenny would do (November 14th or something.) I click through the post, and BOOM. There’s a puzzle.
So, I spent the next 36 MINUTES (-_-) doing the damn 192 piece puzzle. Get it done, post it in my confessional, and part of me is convinced Rudy’s already done it. I’m talking to PW Gabe over AIM though, since he just got eliminated from my game, and told him about the idol find, showed him how to find it, etc. He made some comment about the plays or completions or something, and I’m like, WAIT. So I got back to the puzzle, and while there are two plays (one of them most likely Gabe) there’s only ONE completion. So odds are Rudy doesn’t have the idol, and odds are HIGH that I might’ve just gotten my first idol in God knows how long.
So obviously I’m pretty hyped about that, still waiting on Kenny’s response though, so I can’t just keep droning on and on and on about it y’know? So, let’s talk about DECEPTICONS.
First off, where’s our cool phrase? According to google, it’s “Decepticons attack!” Like, wtf? That SUCKS! The autobots have “Autobots, roll out!” which is a fucking classic! There’s gifs a plenty of that! But nooooo we’re the Decepticons, and the closest thing I can find is a picture of Megatron pointing. AND THAT'S FANART. WHERE ARE THE THEATRICS HASBRO? WHERE ARE THE BEES JAKE? (shoutout to utopia #gone2soon #jkitwasapieceofshit)
So besides our ultimately disappointing name (seriously Starscream is the only thing getting me through this hard time in my life) there are some interesting dynamics at play. The previous tribes are split 2-2-2 so there’s a lot of thought of “Ok, let’s gang up with another tribe and take control, 4-2.” I’m with Caleb, which I trust a bunch at this point, so this sounds pretty appealing to me. My first instinct is like, let’s go with Kelly and Rob - I’ve been talking to Kelly a bunch lately, so it’s a match made in heaven for me. Never talked to Rob before, but hey, I’ll take him in the package.
So, I get to talking the night of the swap, tell Kelly I have her back, vibing pretty good with her, talk to Rob and he seems chill enough, hop off for that night. I assume we’ll get something official going tomorrow. I hop on the next day, and JP immediately messages me and says he’s gonna form a chat and am I cool with that. Before I know it, I’ve been added to a chat consisting of myself, Caleb, Jonas, and JP called “The Four Amigos.”
Caleb messages me pretty quick and explains that they offered us an alliance, and he wanted to take it so we had options and wouldn’t be likely targets. I’m like, OK I’m cool with that, good thinking. At this point I’m considering sticking with them, voting Rob, because if we boot one of them the remaining one could blow up our game and show the alliance, and it could shift 3-2, y’know? Nothing cemented, but a consideration.
Now, let’s go back to a bit before this. Remember when Jonas posted publicly the answers to the first challenge? Fucked everything up? Well, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT I WAS GETTING INTO. Because, and it wasn’t even Jonas this time, JP posts a message in the tribechat from Jonas blowing EVERYTHING up.
Notice my sweet attempt at a deflection there? I know I’m pretty great thanks for asking. So, pretty quickly after that I get a message from Kelly. Pretty soon she’s like “Yeah Caleb told me about the alliance.” and I’m like, even if she’s bluffing, what’s the point now? So I’m like yeah, but we were kinda put between a rock and a hard place, and it wasn’t anything serious. Now she has ZERO reason to trust us, and could easily flip to JP and Jonas - odds are she wouldn’t, from her perspective, but if she got the sense they were more straight up and we were kinda skeezy, trying to play both sides, then she could flip against us. Hell she made a comment to the effect of “yeah you guys are sandwiched right in the middle.” NOPE DO NOT WANT THIS PLEASE AND THANK YOU. Kelly isn’t SUPER active, but she’s social and shrewd - I want her on my side.
So, and I haven’t mentioned this, while this is all going on a mad idol hunt has been occurring. I noticed in the Amanda thread the idol thing, and pretty quickly after that the link in the smiley face under the site news banner at the top. I searched for a good bit, typing in phrases and whatnot, and wasn’t really getting anywhere. So I’m like, fuck it - let’s use this to my advantage. I went to Rudy and I’m like “dude check this out” and shared the clue with him. I think that builds trust and whatnot, and I had only been planning to share this tidbit with Rudy.
But, after a few hours, I got to think, and it occured to me. At this point, there were four guests viewing the Decades board - odds were pretty good that these were players who found the clue. The news was leaking quick, and this was a limited commodity. I might not be able to use this idol clue to get an idol, but that doesn’t mean I can’t use it for my advantage in general. So I send Caleb the info and tell him the plan, before talking to Kelly. Shared the idol clue with her, talked with her like I hadn’t told anybody, and debated with her if we should share with Rob and Caleb.
And damn if it doesn’t seem to have worked. When the second idol clue came up, I didn’t actually notice it - Kelly directed me to it. She’s reciprocating the trust I gave her, which is perfect - I think she wants to work with me. At some point (probably when we go to TC, but hopefully earlier) I imagine we’ll finally form the foursome with them. JP and Jonas seem loyal enough, but in a situational sense it’d be tough, and on top of that I don’t talk with them that much. Not to mention they’re antics could be bad in the post merge. So, if we went to tribal, I would push for a 2-2 split on them - I’m not risking an idol transfer saving them or somethin’, I know how that goes. Maybe 5-1, if I felt iffy about Rob or Kelly, but regardless I’d like to get JP out. It’s so rare one’s game crashing can be linked to one event, but who'd've thunk it, JP may have managed exactly that.
Incidentally, while I’m sorta near the topic, I shared the second idol group in the me/Rupert/Jefra/Drew groupchat. It became active again once Rupert/Jefra went to tribal, and I wanted to share it with Rupert - and at this point, 8 people were on the Decades 90’s site. I’m at this point like, fuck it, and posted it there. Also sorry to Kenny and Sean for not putting you in there message me sometime and I’ll do it.
The last thing I wanted to touch on was the challenge. Honestly I’m not in love with leading challenges, but holy crap Rob. The guy’s in HS, which is fine enough, but he INSISTED on competing. Again, fine, if he can make the time for it. But he had an incredibly inflexible schedule. “Oh, you can’t do any time between 11-6 and 9-3? Perfect,m your a great help.” Like, just back down at that point - eventually we convinced him, but that was a bit of a headache. WE WERE DISCUSSING THE CHALLENGE FOR 3 HOURS LIKE HOLY CRAP PEOPLE.
Eventually I just posted a schedule on the board and had everyone pick a time and edited it in. Which, again, I REALLY did not wanna do. But it was crazy. Also for some reason we decided to do 2 hour intervals. I had suggested a given individual posts once every two hours, which I thought was pretty reasonable, but evidently 10 was the way to go. To be fair, this probably speaks more to me than the others, but hey, we got freetime AND immunity, so I ain’t complaining.
So that’s this round in a nutshell. Basically been working on building my bonds up, finding an idol, and trying to leverage the clue where I can. Stephen should be going 5-1 on the other tribe, barring shenanigans occurring. Which I’m happy with, he was kinda hard to talk to one-on-one, and that seems to be the others’ impressions as well.
OH, also I’ve been negging Crystal’s rep like crazy. She’s fun to chat with and we’re cordial enough, but she’s a really transparent gamer - she’s the type of person who’s like “oh hey how’s it going, so how’s your tribe, what time did you get, etc.” which a bunch of people have noted. And if she was willing to give some information in return, I’d play ball - but she isn’t, so it just leads to a bunch of circular nonsense, which is somewhat fun given her personality, but irritating at the same time, particularly in a game sense.
Like she tries to make us seem like allies, but at this point, when it seems like nothing’s occurring, and based on what other people have mentioned off-handedly, it just feels schmoozy - no we’re not working together, make something happen or you won’t get this information. Anyway, I think she’s the type who might freak out about something like this and I doubt she’d pin it on me, so hey, what’s the harm?

So, sorry about the lack of confessionals for last round. But, seriously - NOTHING HAPPENED FOR ME. I’d be under the radar on any edgic (hey maybe Nav is doing one of those that’d be cool) for confessionals, but like - I WAS UNDER THE RADAR IN THE ROUND TOO. SO IT WORKS OUT. Like, all I did was sit out in the challenge, occasionally cheer them on from the sidelines, feel doubt that we could ultimately win, and uh...nothing else. I didn’t even ever get to make the me/Caleb/Kelly/Rob chat, which kinda sucks for inspiring trust, but I feel good with Kelly regardless.

So, as I’m sure most people were expecting (especially in light of Decepticons domination in challenges) we have now had another tribe dissolve, and two tribes of 7. And just looking at these, I feel like it’s gonna be a bit of a clusterfuck on my end. Part of me is kinda happy for the shake-up, because I felt like I was getting a bit complacent (and dare I say inactive...nah, sub-active at worst #keepingdavedead) and the numbers could have shifted against me easier than I see happening on this end, clusterfuck-i-ness aside. * Insert obligatory famous last words here *
Anyway, I’m not betraying Caleb or Rudy. They’re two of my closest allies in this game, and it’s like, of course I’m gonna work with them. (Also, it’s pretty cool that me and Caleb have been on the same tribe this entire time, especially after our rough start, on my end anyway. Just a neat little arc.) I don’t see the other four banding together, so provided I can keep those two close to each other, which doesn’t seem to be an issue at the moment, we SHOULD in theory be running this tribe. Which seems odd to say at this point, but I just feel like certain people in the other grouping are diametrically opposed to each other, especially since, ONCE AGAIN, people seem to be fighting for mine and Caleb’s allegiance.
There seems to be a few factions brewing at the moment. I was talking to Crystal, and she seems to want to make a power four of me/her/Caleb/Sekou. Talking to Rudy, he wants to make a power four of me/him/Caleb/Sue. Meanwhile no one seems to care about JP in the slightest - he could be an extra number or an expendable, as far as my read goes. Rudy was telling me how Crystal was apparently trying to enact “revenge” for Stephen and boot him and Sue, which I’m sure was to some extent an exaggeration (although who knows with Crystal sometimes) but I don’t think that’s a bridge I’m mending anytime soon. And really, at this point, I can’t see why I’d want to mend it, unless I was trying to get some super huge alliance at merge. But more on that in a bit.
Crystal was talking to me, and like, I guess because we’re on the same tribe now, she ACTUALLY STARTED GIVING ME INFORMATION.
I know, I know, call the presses. But like, the thing is, I feel like she went the COMPLETE opposite direction, and gave me way, way too much information to work with. Here, a few excerpts:

WHY ARE YOU SAYING ALL OF THIS? DO YOU WANT MY VOTE THAT BADLY? Like, I have enough information that, if I wanted to turn Sekou, I could basically show him one of these and probably flip him. Granted, I’m hesitant to do that, because showing screenshots is kinda schemey (even in my own estimation) and also because, if it leaked back to Crystal, she could start gunning for me. But like, hot damn girl, why are you saying all of this?
So, this makes me start thinking, how’s this upcoming merge shaking up? If Crystal/Jaclyn/Stacey are together, that makes me think there’s a decent chance that they have Kelly and Rob as well, over me anyway. If me and Caleb join that, we’re probably sitting at the bottom (with Sekou) of an eight person alliance come merge. Maybe there’d be room for movement, but who effin’ knows, man.
However, if I were to go against Crystal and blindside her, that could fundamentally shake the power structure, provided my current read is correct. Me/Rudy/Caleb/Sue/Rupert/Jefra would be six strong, with a solid shot of grabbing outliers in JP, Jonas, and even Sekou. This would leave my core in the power position going into a 12 or 11 person merge, and Kelly/Rob/Stacey/Jaclyn on the outs. Which I’m not in LOVE with necessarily, because I like Kelly and would like to work with her, and Jaclyn as well to an extent, but it’d leave me with the most options, rather than being forced to work with the Crystal contingent.
And this is all ignoring that the Crystal contingent JUST took out one of my allies in Drew. Like, I get where they’re coming from, especially if it came down to activity between him and Sekou, but it shows that what’s in their best interest isn’t necessarily in mine, because Drew was a number in my camp - he just couldn’t make it past that swap. Ph and Burton also left while I’m talking about this. Man, that sure was an event that happened.
I need more information, because this is all coming to me now and I don’t know the full scope of relationships and alliances. Who is Jefra working with on that end? What’s Rupert up to? Are they with them, or on the bottom? If I try to shake things up, is it gonna put a target on my back? What is Caleb thinking, since he talked to both Rudy and Crystal about alliances? There’s just a lot of moving parts at this point, but I feel like we’re at a decisive moment in the game.
Bluntly speaking, I’m too ignorant to know what the best move is right now - so, figuring out whether to blindside Crystal, or whether to go after Sue (who is with Rudy and me by proxy, but who I haven’t talked with yet) is gonna be tricky. I’m gonna make a bold statement and say I DON’T think I’m in trouble, at the moment, on this tribe - but if I’m dumb I could change that, very, very quickly.

OK, got to talking with Caleb and his head's in the same spot as mine - almost eerily so, actually. We need to blindside Crystal to have the power alliance at the merge, because she's the crux of the current power alliance - boot her, and suddenly we're the core and can attract the floaters to us. It's comforting to know my read was pretty apt, and that my allies see that as well. So, we're gonna start laying the groundwork for a Crystal blindside, because that's the paradigm shift we need.
